I understand your position and arguments, QP, and agree with some of them. Perhaps I have unfairly incorporated other posts of Zmurgy and others on the right into my thoughts there. In any case, SOMETHING has to be done about the wealth disparity...and my opinion is that "what must be done" will come primarily from those on the left. I am far to the left on social issues...and (perhaps for the reason where we are in agreement) left the Democratic Party decades ago. I am an Independent who "caucuses" with the Dems on most things.

All of the ideas to address the wealth gap, which is imo the biggest growing problem threatening to destroy america, did solely come from the populist, progressive left.

It was just that Corporate Dems would speak to them but do almost nothing to really fix it. The republicans would put in 'tax cuts for the rich'... the Dems would decry it but then leave them in place. Cut, paste, repeat as the following and then the following GOP/Dem switch played out with the country moving steadily more right and the wealth gap increasing.

Pay attention now when you watch main stream corporate media as they bring on guys like Anthony Scaramucci to Jake Tapper's show to argue over and over the biggest learning lesson for the left and Dems is that they must not move left and towards populism and progressivism. They argue that is the mistake of the past, as if Bernie won and got to try his agenda. They use words like 'extreme' constantly to define any progressive/populist person or movement on the left.

it is an all hands effort to try and keep the Dem party as not becoming a populist party and instead remaining the center right corporate Dem party because they KNOW that if a Bernie type runs and wins as a Dem uniting BOTH the Bernie populists and Trump populists, that true reform will happen and both the uber rich and corporations will have to start paying their fair share.

They are terrified of the Dems moving that way, leaving it open for FAKE guys on the right to do it.

I'm looking at a book on my shelf called Stayin' Alive: The 1970s and the Last Days of the Working Class by Jefferson Cowie (your comments reminded me of it).

You've had several more decades on this planet than I, so you can speak better to the transformation of voters and the political parties than I can. As globalization and technology advanced, the political dominance of unions and working class started to wane.

You spoke about the Democratic Party, I see the tension first hand in San Francisco. The party of course wants to appeal to working class voters. At the same time it wants to sell the City as this hub of innovation and the place high striving individuals and entrepreneurs, along with capital, should be.

Then you get the battle over the 'tech bros', who are largely Democrats, pricing out the working class, minorities, artists, LBGQ etc.

I've listened to a few podcasts with folks described as old school leftist. They're very much in the Bernie camp and see Democrats pretty much as you do. With millions of Republicans and millions of Democrats, not all people are going to agree on all issues of course. But you do call out the tension within the party.

maga has split. The core of maga is now aligned with Rubio and the NeoCon's and believe in a reinvigorated "America as world policeman because bad people run countries some where and America MUST take them out spending tax payer money'. those people would not support Tucker now.

The big portion of maga who was America First and believed Trump was ending all the foreign wars and adventurism and would pour tax payer dollars into home based improvements are now mostly out of the coalition.

Before the split i saw Tucker as the only person, currently on the map who could keep the Trump coalition together but no longer.

Steve Bannon may run and try but i think he is a charisma killer and cannot attract people to vote for him.

Candace Owens jumped the shark a long time ago. Carlson is on the fringe as well. Liberals care more about them at this point.
