COVID related deaths

He said a 1.5% fatality rate. Obviously that depends upon the infection rate. Since there is no vaccine, is it really that hard to realize that this will be worse than flu season?

What is 2,405 divided into 140,904 moron?

About half of US adults get flu vaccinations yet flu fatalities still number about 40,000 with a disease that is a tenth as deadly as COVID-19. Couple no COVID-19 vaccine with a disease that is more contagious than the flu and deadlier than the flu and it doesn't take a CDC scientist to deduce the results.

How is a disease that infects far more Americans and kills 15,111 to date less dangerous than one that has infected far fewer and killed only a fraction? I don't get that math. Help me out here.

Are 15,111 deaths from flu greater than 2,405??? Are 1,114,000 flu cases greater than 140,904??? Help me out here.

So while the flu has long been considered a dangerous seasonal scourge, new data on the COVID-19 epidemic underscore a frightening fact: COVID-19 is even deadlier.[/spoiler]

Yes, you can have selection bias and ignore whatever you like.

Again; the data do not suggest that. In fact, they suggest that even WITH a vaccine, the flu is far more deadly and has killed far more in the same time period.

This season CDC estimates that, as of mid-March, between 29,000 and 59,000 have died due to influenza illnesses. Add to that the misery of hundreds of thousands of flu-related hospitalizations and millions of medical visits for flu symptoms this season.

So while the flu has long been considered a dangerous seasonal scourge, new data on the COVID-19 epidemic underscore a frightening fact: COVID-19 is even deadlier.

How ‘deadly’ can a virus be when up to 50% of those infected don’t realize they’ve had it?

You should be declared mentally incompetent and kept in a padded cell. I see you still haven't foind anything to back up your stupid lies JackOFF. No you're down to flailing and hurling insults.

Yes. It would be interesting if your Theory that the ChiComs and Democrats started the Covid-19 to destroy Trump. Why won't anybody believe you???

You know TD. I'm more inclined to believe your 'theory' that it (meaning the coronavirus) is the Republican Plan to solve the Social Security shortfall.
That theory actually makes sense.

When, as TD stated, 1.5% end up dead.

Worse, as you just confirmed, when 50% don't realize they have it, then they spread it.

SARS, Flu and Colds are all viruses, but they are different. That's why Flu vaccines don't work for Colds and that's why SARS isn't the same as the Flu no matter who says it is. It's why there's no vaccine for Colds and, at least so far, no vaccine for SARS.

COVID-19 is a form of coronavirus previously unknown to mankind. Some coronaviruses are common and mild. This one is not since it appears to be fatal to about 50% of those who are elderly or with compromised immune systems. Overall, about 1% of the population which is ten times more fatal than the flu's 0.1%. About 80% of people won't feel much, 20% will free like crap for a couple weeks and about 1% will be buried and life will go on. As for the total body count; time will tell. Let's see what we have on Easter, Cinco de Mayo and the Fourth of July. :)

https://www.cdc.gov/sars/index.html
Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is a viral respiratory illness caused by a coronavirus called SARS-associated coronavirus (SARS-CoV). SARS was first reported in Asia in February 2003. The illness spread to more than two dozen countries in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia before the SARS global outbreak of 2003 was contained.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/types.html
Human coronaviruses were first identified in the mid-1960s. The seven coronaviruses that can infect people are:

Common human coronaviruses
229E (alpha coronavirus)
NL63 (alpha coronavirus)
OC43 (beta coronavirus)
HKU1 (beta coronavirus)

Other human coronaviruses
MERS-CoV (the beta coronavirus that causes Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, or MERS)
SARS-CoV (the beta coronavirus that causes severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS)
SARS-CoV-2 (the novel coronavirus that causes coronavirus disease 2019, or COVID-19)

SARS is a flu. There is no such thing as a 'flu vaccine'. Flu has many variants.
Covid-19 is also a flu. It happens to be milder than most.

Hello Darth,

How ‘deadly’ can a virus be when up to 50% of those infected don’t realize they’ve had it?

Quite deadly for those who get it and die. And quite possibly they got it from one of those people who shows only slight symptoms, and may not even know they have it. Perhaps children. Maybe we should test some of them.

Knowing who has it and who doesn't is primary in dealing with it.

That's why our testing debacle is destroying our ability to fight the disease.

I just read where Trump [since Trump is your favorite topic] set a world record for testing lol.

It 50% of COVID infections are asymptomatic and/or mild then there is a big gap in the data with respect to numbers of cases.

It also puts the virus on a collusion course with herd immunity.
