COVID related deaths

SARS is a flu. There is no such thing as a 'flu vaccine'. Flu has many variants.
Covid-19 is also a flu. It happens to be milder than most.

Sorry, man, but you should read the links and study up on the differences between the three viruses mentioned.

More than 911

Does this feel like an emergency yet tards?

9/11 was like Pearl Harbor; a sudden hard shock. COVID-19 is like the proverbial frog in a pot of slowly boiling water. More directly, it's like those who've already posted about the Philadelphia parade in 1918. The danger is there, but people don't see it.

Hello Darth,

Quite deadly for those who get it and die. And quite possibly they got it from one of those people who shows only slight symptoms, and may not even know they have it. Perhaps children. Maybe we should test some of them.

Knowing who has it and who doesn't is primary in dealing with it.

That's why our testing debacle is destroying our ability to fight the disease.

Which goes directly to the point of the insidiousness of both the deadliness of this disease and the complacency of those who deny it's a problem even though they admit it will kill 1.5% of those infected.

I just read where Trump [since Trump is your favorite topic] set a world record for testing lol.

It 50% of COVID infections are asymptomatic and/or mild then there is a big gap in the data with respect to numbers of cases.

It also puts the virus on a collusion course with herd immunity.

Since Trump is both President and declared himself a "wartime President" in this matter, why do you think it's inappropriate to bring him up in a discussion of the disease he declared himself at war with?

No one is disagreeing with you about the 50% who show no symptoms. What others are trying to teach you is that 50% is the problem.

Do you not care if those 50% walk around and infect the entire country? Have you done the math on a country of 327M and a 1.5% fatality rate?

Darth, I think you are a much smarter person than others believe. Please use your own head and don't follow the lead of idiots, regardless of party affiliation.

Italy and S Korea have both tested 3 times the number of cases per million than the USA.

Our country cannot begin to heal from the damage DT has done until he is out of office. The sooner the better. He is the worst by far.

The 50% is a problem for the high mortality rate because it’s suggests a lot more people *have had* COVID than we know. Spot testing symptomatic people is useless in terms of getting that number.

The total number of deaths is another issue. Currently the big numbers correlate with high population density and heavy immigration. If we get to big numbers it will likely be without the help of other regions.

We’ll see.

But Trump lol.

Do you know SK came up with a .6% mortality rate with all of their testing?

I agree testing is more about data collection AKA "knowledge is power" versus a solution.

That said, I think you are not considering all of the data. Regardless, time will tell. Why do you think everyone is rushing to judgment on total fatalities? Why not wait until November and take a vote?

What does the election have to do with total fatalities?

Nobody is considering all the data because nobody has all the data. The models should be taken with a grain of salt because their predictions are no better than the data that is fed into them.

COVID has some heavy lifting to do in order to catch up with other recent outbreaks and maybe it will get there or maybe it won’t.

And because we lack data, it’s hardly inconceivable the numbers could start to top out in tens days or so and if that happens there’s going to be a lot of crow-eating.

I don’t like crow.

I'm glad it's that low.

Now, what's supposed to stop it from eventually infecting a majority of the planet?

Needless to say, .6% of a large population is a large number.

What if 60% of the USA got it before a an effective vaccine is available publicly?

Let's do that math.

329M x 60% = 197 million people getting the virus.

.6% of them die.

197M x .6% = 1.2 million dead Americans.

This is not a good thing.

That is around 10 times the amount predicted by Fauci.

The world currently has as many refugees as ever.

Living in squalor and close quarters.

They cannot practice social distancing.

Their life is hand to mouth.

There is no stay home stay safe for them.

What's supposed to happen in all those refugee camps when this thing hits?

Those places are a ticking time bomb.

I think all the statistical nonsense shows that people find figures unreal. If Trumpf went out and shot 1,000 people in New York tomorrow it would be a tiny percentage of the American population, but even in America it might well cause comment.

When medical decisions are based on political election campaign results, people die. Same goes for money. How many Americans have died because an insurance company deemed a procedure "experimental" or "too costly for the risk"? Same with political capital. At the moment Trump is bouncing between his opposing political desire to raise the economy and keeping the body count down below the annual flu virus death count. Better if he can keep it below "Obama's" 2009-2010 H1N1 body count of 12,469 deaths (which was 0.2% of those infected. Twice the flu rate but only 1/5th the COVID-19 rate).

Correct about data, which is why it's important to collect as much as possible before enacting risky actions. Until data is collected, it's best to proceed with caution.

True, but there's a difference between premeditated homicide and accidental or needless deaths. Each year about 650K Americans die of heart disease and about another 600K die of cancer and no one blinks an eye. About 37K Americans die each year in auto accidents and most Americans don't care. Presumably because, as a nation, we've done our best to make the roads and autos as safe as possible so it's either stop driving or accept the losses for now. In the case of a plague, there are measures that can be taken and our nation is doing it's best to take those actions. If they don't, and we start having a lot of needless deaths, We, the People are going to be unhappy about it.

This is informative data.

COVID-19 is a mostly a threat to susceptible populations [we knew that] but the chart confirms it. More importantly, it speaks to the *innate virulence* of the virus.

IOW, the Plague virus carried a 95%[!] mortality rate: it pretty much didn’t matter who you were or how healthy you were or etc. If you got the Plague you were almost certainly going to die. Other evidence suggests that the COVID virus isn’t particularly virulent—it can’t be, when there are so many asymptomatic carriers.

Milder than most other flu. You are fear mongering.

Maybe Trump told him that!

"This is a flu. This is like a flu"; "Now, you treat this like a flu"; "It's a little like the regular flu that we have flu shots for. And we'll essentially have a flu shot for this in a fairly quick manner." - Donald Trump.

Fortunately, the Plague is treatable now. It is a bacteriological infection, and can be treated with aggressive antibiotics. This is fortunate, since the homeless in the SOTC cities, such as Los Angeles, are carrying the Plague.
