I never made that claim. Others might have, but I didn't. I've stated all along that bombing targets to devastate the Iranian economy is the best way to get them to negotiate.
I never suggested we do that. Doing so wouldn't inflict massive casualties on US forces, but it doesn't buy us much of anything to do it.
So if I understand trump's claims, he said that they were two weeks from having nuclear weapons, he bombed them back 50 years, and then eight months later they were two weeks from having nuclear weapons. That would mean that they advanced 50 years in 8 months...

Because Trump ripped up the 2015 nuclear agreement which released Iran from it's treaty obligations. They never enriched uranium to 60 percent until the treaty was defunct.
I think it's because of the deterrent effect. If the United States and Israeli keep launching sneak attacks and threatening to invade, Iran is probably calculating that having weapons grade enriched uranium that could be quickly weaponized might deter would be invaders.
