Actually, they think their opinion should carry far more weight than the doctors and other experts. They think they are far smarter and competent than the experts.
This may well be how America ends.
A society of 330,000,000 Americans is too robust and dynamic to die. The same can't be said individuals. Certainly not the anti-vaxxers dying in hospitals.
There's the story about the preacher atop a flooding church who passes up two boats and a helicopter believing God would save him but he drowns. In Heaven he asks why he was allowed to die and God says "
I sent you two boats and a helicopter. How much more did you expect?"
With COVID we've had the initial wave, the Delta wave and the Omicron wave. If the next wave is 50% fatalities, should we have sympathy for those too deluded to get a vaccination?
No. They're idiots. I wish we had a cure for idiocy and, admittedly our mental health care is mediocre, many forms of insanity, but it's better for everyone that they die.
Sure, each death is a tragedy and if it happens to unvaxxed in my family, my opinion doesn't change. C'est la vie.
As a nation, the total loss, while costly, pushes the US back away from becoming an Idiocracy. Good. God Bless America.
