I suspect in eight years, when the battery is toast, here will be a network of rebuilders where you drive in and exchange the battery. This has been the case for Prius batteries for several years now. ChrisFix did a video on it and it was a simple process. This will undoubtedly be a lot more complex due to the size of the battery and the fact that it is riveted to the chassis.

The I-Pace main battery is liquid cooled, using standard automotive antifreeze - water mixture. I figured that it would use a dialectic oil like used in transformers.

All wheel drive yet no transmission, transfer case, drive shafts and differentials. Each axle has an electric motor. I have to assume that the half-shafts are each powered by half of each motor, as that would give differential action.

I still drive a 2010 Prius that I bought new and haven't had to replace the battery yet, and the car is over 110,000 miles...that battery just keeps on working...of course I probably just jinxed myself, but I was planning to buy a new Prius before COVID anyway...

I wouldn't buy a Tesla because from what I've read they're always having problems...but I would fork out the same money to buy a fully-loaded, all-electric Prius, since the hybrid model I have now is 11 years old and still runs like a dream...

I had a Jag for a while. They are beautiful (well were) but as the saying goes dont count on them being reliable or watertight.

I had a 96 XJ6 for a while, to "flip". The gentleman that owned it routinely puts 350k miles on them. This one only had 150k on it but had paint damage from his carless wife. It was a fine car, trouble-free and water tight.

I wouldn't buy a Tesla because from what I've read they're always having problems...but I would fork out the same money to buy a fully-loaded, all-electric Prius, since the hybrid model I have now is 11 years old and still runs like a dream...

What have you read? I did pretty extensive research on Teslas before I bought my Model Y and all I found is that there were some body panel issues a few years ago but many of those issues have been ironed out. Mine had none. I have a handful of friends who drive Teslas and they haven't mentioned problems with their cars. I also subscribe to a Tesla forum on Reddit and if there was a pervasive problem, I would've read about it. It's a great source for everything Tesla.

I bought a Prius in 2012 and it was a nice car. No major issues the nine years I drove it. Great gas mileage but I didn't like the performance and response. It always felt like I was pulling a trailer. Just very bad pickup. Teslas have ludicrous response and acceleration. It's fun to be stopped at a red light next to a gas car and blowing by them when the light turns green.

They are neat-looking cars, though, even if the company that builds them is run by a fucking asshole.

Go easy on Elon. He has Aspergers so he's not very personable or camera-friendly. Social awkwardness is typical of Aspies.

Many consider Musk to be the Steve Jobs of automobiles. It takes a pair to manage a car company with all the different aspects of the business. Musk has been successful with Tesla, not an easy task introducing a new technology to cars and making it marketable. I don't know about his personality but Musk is a fucking genius. Not only is he running the company as their CEO but he's very engineering-savvy and makes a lot of manufacturing decisions on the cars as well as business decisions.
 
Consumer Reports has historically been the worst place to read car reviews. No wonder Little Virgin adheres to its nonsense.

Then why doesn't Jaguar warrant their batteries for 200,000 miles?

I‑PACE's battery has a 8 year or 160,000km (100,000 miles) warranty and is redeemable if the battery drops below a 70 percent state of health.

That's what amazes me. EVs are so much simpler than ICE cars. You can't even get access to the motors because there's no maintenance on them. And because they're much smaller than an ICE engine (you can actually pick a Tesla motor up), there's more cargo space. And because of their regerative braking, you will never need to change the brake pads. I use my brakes maybe 5% of the time now. You learn how to let the car brake itself when you release the throttle. It's a refreshing way to drive. No moving your foot back and forth between the brake and the throttle. There's just no comparison between an EV and an old ICE car.
 
I can't gush about Rivian enough, they've beaten everyone else to the electric truck market, have the backing of Amazon and Ford and are expected to IPO sometime after Thanksgiving. Might be a good stock to scoop up.

I can't gush about Rivian enough, they've beaten everyone else to the electric truck market, have the backing of Amazon and Ford and are expected to IPO sometime after Thanksgiving. Might be a good stock to scoop up.
