His rank was Colonel when he died making his last stand at the "Battle of Little Big Horn."

Look at what has transpired in this country since Trump was elected. Was anyone destroying statues? Kneeling during the National anthem? Screaming hatred for him from all angles?
Say what you want, but he was trying to keep most of the promises he campaigned on. Is he an asshole? Yeah, probably, but how many bosses do you know that aren't? I'm sure it was said that I was.

There are surviving statues of the Roman Emperors Claudius and Nero. They are carefully preserved as valuable cultural artifacts of Western civilization.

Would it bother you at all to hear that a mob of mindless savages had destroyed them as a protest against Western decadence and imperialism; oh yes, and slavery ?

A statue in a public park almost always is a statement about a person or idea the community at large admires, honors, or holds in high esteem.

Colonel Custer doesn't need his statue in a public park, and I leave it to local communities to decide if Custer needs to be presented in bronze in their park.

Custer is always going to be a part of history , and no one has proposed erasing him from history books.
