None of Trump's strategic goals for this war have been achieved, Iran is more recalcitrant than ever, the US military has been bogged down for six months, and Trump allowed Iran to demonstrate it can exercise a stranglehold on the global economy.

Unless Trump fundamentally changes the trajectory of the events he put in motion, we are looking at the possibility of strategic defeat thanks to the Republican Party.

That doesn't amount to "defeat." You are describing a stalemate or lull in warfare, not a defeat. Iran has not "exercise(d) a stranglehold on the global economy." Sure, they were able to drive the price of oil up some, but that's about all they accomplished. The global economy marched on otherwise uneffected.
