Every state in the union has laws similar to the Red Flag law where someone has become a danger to either society or themselves, based on corroborated evidence, and the Police Departments have to go in and remove their firearms.

And for the NRA to rear their ugly head here and try to make some 2nd Amendment excuse to try and ban the Red Flag law is nothing more than irresponsible, anti-establishment, anti-law enforcement, antipathetic towards law, order, and civility.

Let me tell you something else you poor excuse of a human being, your complete ignorance of determining what is right from wrong, is one of the reasons why so many people are fed up with the NRA for trying to incite rhetoric exactly like this. And it will have an exact opposite result than what you are trying to promote.

Responsible gun owners, to include long-standing NRA members, Police Departments, legislators, and a vocal majority, are the ones that put these protective laws in place to prevent mass murders and public shootings, suicides, and many other dangers and crimes to keep the public safe.

People like you who are irresponsible and trying to inflame other idiots much like yourself with rhetoric just like this thread, should be taken right out in front of NRA headquarters and shot right in the fucking ass for all to see- just for being so reckless, stupid, and irresponsible.

I believe the decision to take firearms from family members should be left to the discretion of the family, not law enforcement, unless an investigation proves merit.

Just as a question of fact, how can any law take away ones right to be adjudicated as mentally ill before one is punished for such?

It is true that every State has some form of a "Red Flag" law, however, in all States I am aware of no action can be taken unless the one accused is examined by a licensed therapist, or similar "professional", and then determined to be a threat.

My point though, is that a previous poster claimed that he had been identified as being mentally ill by a family member, when in fact he was only accused of such by a family member.

It's all about priorities. No one is taking anyone's due process of the law away from anyone. The immediate threat has to be taken away first, and then there is a legal process to further evaluate the mentality of someone, and determine whether they need to be institutionalized, jailed, permanently denied access to firearms, or simply have their guns handed right back over to them and dropping the case. That is all up to the court at that point.

But, say, for example a parolee has violated his probation by obtaining a firearm, and it gets reported to the police by a concerned family member or anyone else, the police will always go in and remove his weapons first and foremost, and then he will get his day in court. You can't just allow someone to retain possession of their firearms as they go through their due process.

A guy in bed at 5 in the morning is not an "immediate threat", and confiscating his guns is obviously a punishment for an unknown crime. And using the case of a parolee violating the conditions of his parole is desperation.
