Florida man found guilty of manslaughter in parking lot shooting that led to 'Stand Y

Hello Althea,

Well, the crazy thing is the handicap spot is over at the side of the building and there were other spots that were closer to the front door.
I seem to remember seeing that when the case first came into the public eye.

When one citizen sees another citizen flaunting laws meant to benefit the disabled or any other disadvantaged group, or even the general public at large, that citizen has the right to verbally counsel the offending party about the error of their ways.

But in no circumstance, does the person being verbally confronted, have the right to walk up and shove that person to the ground.

I'm guessing that, had the people who illegally parked in the handicapped space not been black, they could've made it into an episode of that drippy, goody-two-shoes, sjw bullshit TV show What Would You Do?, with the people who confronted and berated the illegal parker being portrayed as the "good guys" and the illegal handicap space parker as the "bad guy".

Of course, the inconsiderate, law breaking handicap parking space taker would've been a white male while at least one or more of the decent, justice upholding warriors would've been black.

In this case, the husband of the scofflaw who illegally took a parking space reserved for the disabled, didn't bother to try to diffuse the situation with words. He Went straight to physical violence when he just walked right up and shoved the man to the ground.

That having been said, there was also no need for the white guy to just pull out his gun and shoot without warning the husband first. All he needed to do was point the gun and let him know that any further attempt at physical confrontation would result in the aggressor being shot.

If justice is to be served here, since there are mitigating factors, the shooter will do some prison time, but nowhere near the max. Maybe five years with the possibility of parole after three and a half years or so.

Lessons to be learned by all here. Just because you're a big, aggressive black dude doesn't give you a pass to go shoving smaller guys around just because they made you mad. Just because you're a white right-wing, gun loving goofball who's been itching to shoot someone (especially someone black) doesn't give you the right to shoot and kill someone just because they pushed you down.

And for the rest of you gun goobers, this case is a prime example of why guns in the hands of average citizens always carries with it an inherent danger. Some gun-toting dumbass having a bad day gets pushed over the edge by an otherwise innocuous incident and BANG!!!

Lives end and others are ruined.
He came out and found some guy screaming at his wife. We don't know what the wannabe meter maid said to the husband before he got shoved.

In a single asinine post you claimed what "most guys" think, told the other poster he can't fight, and decided that the guy deserved to get murdered. You're a piece of shit.

Ah, I see you've met Jack. Since you failed to agree with him, he will now proceed to insult your man/womanhood and write lurid and plagiarized porn about his feverish fantasies of your sex life.

The video shows no indication of him "screaming" at her. And especially not her kids as you claimed previously.

Arguing is not screaming. "Screaming" is a hyperbolic term used only as an attempt to justify the black guy walking up and physically assaulting the man with no attempt to diffuse the situation verbally.

I agree that shooting him was unnecessary, but the unnecessary physical assault by the black guy should be considered a mitigating circumstance during sentencing.
Watch the whole video. The guy has priors for the same exact issue, and has threatened to shoot other black people in that same parking lot.

That's not what I see.

The "pusher" saw the gun and started backing away.

At that point, the shooter should have verbally warned him and kept his finger off the trigger.

Two idiots who learned a lesson the hard way.
Agree

The Violent Aggressor getting shot ... should be the norm.
The violent aggressor was the guy with the big mouth. The guy standing his ground feared for his GF's safety.

And...SYG does NOT allow for you to start an incident, and then 'protect yourself', which is why the racist Zimmerman jury got it wrong. I'd love to know the racial makeup of this jury.

I've tossed my 2 cents worth in on this subject. So I have nothing more to add than something from what Benjamin Franklin supposedly said about 'freedom'. "Your Freedom stops where my nose begins".
Once someone violently touches you, and in this case, lifts you off your feet and you end up on the ground, ... the Rules change from Verbal Debate to Physical Domination. You've left the Realm of Logic and Reasoning, and entered the Realm of Combat.
Did you notice after the Assailant got shot in the chest, and NOT before, that he decided to retreat from the Field of Battle?

Like evince, you're using a hyperbolic and emotionally charged word ("screaming") to further an agenda. The white guy was arguing with the wife, but you can see just as the husband was approaching, she started to get out of the car, so apparently she wasn't frightened of him.

And just because the white guy was arguing with her or more likely, scolding her for being so inconsiderate while also breaking the law, that does not give her husband the right to just walk up and shove him to the ground without even verbally warning him off first.

This is basically Travon Martin and George Zimmernan all over again.

A white guy tries to defend the law, a black guy resorts to a violent attack on him and the white guy shoots him for it.

The only difference here is that in this case, the black guy had backed off when he saw the gun, so the white guy shouldn't have shot him.

But by the same token, the black guy shouldn't have shoved him down on the pavement.

Is America turning into a nation of cowards, bullying out of fear?

(AllHipHop Opinion) Once upon a time, in Delaware, I was driving alone in my cherry red Ford Escort GT in a rural area just outside of Glasgow. I was driving and somehow got into a confrontation with a pick-up truck-driving redneck, who decided calling me "n-gger" was a good idea. Also, we were a stone's throw from Klan country to give you some context. This was the 90's and Hip-Hop was still aggressive, political and raged against injustices. Him calling me a n-gger meant it was time to fight. I stopped my car in the distance and so did he. The very moment I got out of my car, he quickly yelled to his wife to get his gun.

Immediately. At that point, I decided it was in my best interest to leave. I was unarmed.

My Sunday morning was ruined for me. After a vacation, I was able to see what I had heard: another unarmed man was shot in Florida. This time, it was over a parking space. A handicap parking space. The matter resulted in Markeis McGlockton, 29, being shot dead by Michael Drejka, 47, after a shove put him on his butt. Mind you, Drejka was raging at McGlockton family - his girlfriend and their children - as they sat in a minivan. Drejka's angst was such that somebody eventually summoned McGlockton, who came running to defend his family.

He did what I would have done.

Stand your ground law is a coward's law that protects cowardly acts.

Except, Drejka was found guilty, so whatever point Mr. AllHiHop was trying to make about Stand You Ground laws doesn't apply.
Oopsy.

Sorry, but you are wrong on all counts.

1) The white guy did not physically assault the woman. Having a verbal altercation is not a justification for pushing someone down.

2) SYG applies to anyone, whether they started the altercation or not. The first one to resort to physical violence, is the one who can have deadly force used against him, no matter who started the altercation.

3) The Zimmerman jury was neither racist nor wrong in their decision.

I wonder why so many liberals caterwaul so about SYG laws then. Maybe they don't understand how they work or why some states chose to adopt them.

He was saying, like I said stand your ground laws are for cowards to protect cowardly acts?!!

It's about cowardice!

Well, in the case he chose to cite, SYG didn't apply. Kind of detracts from his credibility. Do "cowards" have less of a right to defend themselves from assault than "brave and strong" people?

That's the problem with you lefties. So... Many... Ad hominem attacks... So little substance.

If I came out of the store to see some asshole screaming at my kids for being in a car I would very likely be ready to fuck the guy up

what words did the gun nutter heave at this mans family when he walked up on him

He was packing already

he was screaming at a woman and children who did NOT approach HIM

Image walking up as some stranger is screaming evil shit at your family

I would have been ready to take him down physically too.

but Im a white lady so if the guy shot me NO ONE would have questioned me shoving his ass to the ground

You couldn't fuck up a paper bag, if it was wet and you were inside it. :palm:

Notice how Big Media always slows down the video so it looks like the shooter had plenty of time to see the thug was backing away. In real time, it was over in an instant.

I was waiting for someone to mention this; because it's the ONLY way you can see what appears to be him backing away.

I guess everyone should have the ability to stop action and reply it in slow mo, before defending themselves.

I wonder what's going to occur during the appeal??

who rolled up on whom you fucking idiot?

he walked out of the store to see some ASSHOLE MAN threatening his wife and children and blocking his access to his own vehicle

But hes was Black and the people he was protecting are black so your racist fucking ass sides with a murderer

What did he say that was threatening??

Here's some interesting points mentioned by our friends at SF

>prosecution played slow motion version of the security footage to make it seem like he waited longer before shooting
>testimony about the PCP in his system was banned by the judge
>testimony about the drugs in his pocket was banned by judge
>sheriff who said it was a legal shooting was banned from testifying by judge
>prosecutor called drejka a "right wing nutjob" and said "a real man doesn't carry a gun"
>his prior felony arrests for assault was banned from being mentioned by the judge
>some woman who claims drejka once threatened her was allowed to testify even though there is no police report or any evidence to back up her story

And this will probably be brought up in the appeal and could very well result in the conviction being overturned and a new trial ordered to be held, unless the appeal judge dismisses all charges with prejudice.

All you can do is speculate. But a good rule of thumb, dont roll up on people. If he had a problem and he wasnt prepared to die suddenly, he should have done the right thing and called the cops instead of trying to take mattets into his own hands. But he didnt did he. And now he's dead. The lesson will be learned by others. (Unless they're stupid) so where do you like to park, just wondering.

There was plenty of room, so why didn't he just stand between his wife and the guy??

OH-WAIT, it's because he was bigger, FELT he could just attack someone, and get away with it..
