For Catholics, Christa Pike's guilt does not erase her dignity

In his 2020 encyclical, Fratelli Tutti, Francis made the point again, quoting Pope John Paul II with the words "not even a murderer loses his personal dignity," then going on to affirm that the inalienable dignity of every human being extends even to "the worst of criminals."

The church's now categorical opposition to the death penalty represents a significant and quite recent development in Catholic teaching. For many centuries, the church accepted capital punishment, and ecclesiastical institutions participated in systems that condemned heretics and others to their deaths, most notoriously during the inquisitions.

In the Catholic tradition, Colleen Slemmer's dignity does not require Christa Pike to lose her own, just as the women and child murdered by Henri Pranzini were not further harmed because St. Thérèse prayed for their killer.

Epstein case was an open investigation under Biden

The Epstein case was an open criminal investigation during the Biden administration, Miami Herald investigative reporter Julie K. Brown explained on social media. Brown’s extensive reporting since 2017 has shone a light on the crimes of Epstein and his longtime accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell. Her book about Epstein, titled “Perversions of Justice,” is a New York Times bestseller.

Schumer calls for Senate to sue administration over Epstein files
“They had an open grand jury. … And even after Maxwell’s conviction, the case was on appeal — anyone in law enforcement knows you don’t open your case file when it’s still under appeal,” Brown added.

Victims were still going to the FBI with information during Biden’s term, but that changed when President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice reviewed the files and closed the case in July, Brown said.

It's STILL an open investigation.

Yet Trump released the files.

Because he didn't need to protect democrats.

How does a thread about “For Catholics, Christa Pike's guilt does not erase her dignity” morph into posts about President Trump and Epstein?
Because Desh is DESPERATE to change the subject. She has been trained to chant a specific set of absurd lies. It's all she really knows.

My personal view on capital punishment is one of charity. Impose it when it is due..and it should be due whenever an individual is considered to be unsafe ever to be released into the general population. It certainly is more humane than life in prison with no possibility of parole...which I consider the cruelest punishment possible. Fact is, long incarcerations will one day be looked at as we today look at the tortures of the medieval period.
My problem with capital punishment is the method which, as recent events illustrate, is barbaric.
It should be carried out as euthanasia the way sick pets are euthanized...which is totally different from what's being done now.
Further, euthanasia should be an option for all sentenced to prison as prison itself is completely barbaric.

I understand that some of the criminals have done truly horrific things, things which would not influence us to treat them humanly;
but consider this.

First, do we want to put the state on the level of the vicious criminals?
Second, do sane people actually commit heinous violent crimes? Aren't we punishing people for being truly sick?

I believe that even those non-criminals who have no further possibility of quality of life should have the option of euthanasia as well.

Ridiculous religious beliefs make us monsters. They're based on no physical evidence at all and yet they remain.

I love my pets.

I don't love vicious murderers and rapists.

You democrats do, but I don't.
