Well, this Leftist is smart enough know it's never okay to employ metaphors about murdering someone, especially someone you don't like where the chance of your meaning being misconstrued is greatly increased.
And if this comment was a metaphor it was thin as one gets before crossing the line into a literal statement.

Always been baffled by this hatred of Fauci. The guy is so obviously well intended and decent, as well as the helpful advisor the American public, other than Trumpers, find him to be. True, he committed the cardinal sin of not
licking the master's boots during Trump's term in office, but is that the reason???

You'd be wrong, except in your snowflake, safe-space world. Such metaphors are used all the time.

For example, one might say in a sporting event when the other team is overwhelming and winning easily, "We're getting murdered out there!" (We're losing badly)
Another from comedy is a series of extremely funny jokes tossed out where someone replies, "Stop, you're murdering me!" (I can't stop laughing so hard)

So, your comment is just woke needless sensitivity to being insulted and you don't like it for all intents.

You have half a point but only half. The use of murder as a metaphor isn't objectionable for being open to misinterpretation when it is impersonal, indirect or humorous, thereby leaving no mistake that it is a metaphor, as in your examples. Here, however, the metaphor (if that's what it was) is personal, direct and serious. The remark was aimed at a person viewed by many with heated animosity, it wasn't funny, and it was in the directly relevant context of hurting him. This obviously is why there's been so much criticism.
