No one said Harris was “secretly great,” rather given the small time available she did a bit better than one would have expectedRight, Harris was some unstoppable political juggernaut.
Except she had never won a national election, got vaporized in the 2020 primary before Iowa, and was then handed the nomination because Democrats decided “let the voters sort it out” was apparently too risky.
But sure, if only she had 110 days instead of 100, America would have witnessed the full power of the Harris campaign machine. Maybe by day 106 she would have discovered Pennsylvania.
Trump beat another weak opponent. Congratulations to him for clearing the lowest possible bar.
The useful lesson here is not that Harris was secretly great. It is that anointing candidates is stupid, skipping competitive primaries is stupid, and pretending party insiders know better than voters is how you end up learning the obvious the hard way.
And again the limited time available, primaries and a nominating Convention would have been impossible, had they attempted such they’d be lucky if they even had a candidate by Election Day
