I understand there is a whole cottage industry devoted to the mythology and infallibility of Bedtime for Bonzo Raygun, but it really seems like the rapid decline of America's blue collar middle class just substantially accelerated in the 1980s and continued from there. And one could endlessly debate the reasons, but the rapid decline and erosion of the middle class was commensurate with conservative economics, neo-liberal corporate trade policies, deregulation, the assault on unions and pensions, and trickle down tax policy all generally winning favor during the last four decades.
