Is the GOP a dead party?

Bill Clinton was a liberal slash pragmatist. Hillary was some sort of liberal/neocon hybrid. I think neocon was her first inclination but she had to move to the left on account of Bernie and BLM.

Kennedy was a liberal---and he would also be unelectable as a democrat today. Which should tell you something.

Classical liberals have a libertarian bent and advocate for social progress but still respect freedom of speech. They would distance themselves from the current crop of cultural Marxists. They wouldn't advocate open borders just based on notions of multiculturalism.

I'm not sure there are any classical liberals here at JPP. Nationally, I would call Tulsi Gabbard a liberal in that sense. And she was forced to abandon the DNC out of principle.

:rofl2:

Kennedy was not a liberal. He had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the Civil Rights fight.

Bill Clinton was never a liberal. Look no further than the DLC.

I appreciate your perspective .. but it's typical republican wrong.

Very true, Clinton was a neo-liberal who subscribed to the political angling of 'triangulation'. He carved a third path between centrists and conservatives, and his policies (largely right-wing) very much reflected that. DOMA, criminal justice, deregulation, welfare reform, were all done to appease and co-opt conservative policies.

Very well said.

I will tell you what Republicans think. They think anyone even slightly to the left of Zell Miller and David Duke is a "liberal". I'm not sure if they actually believe that, or if it is an act. Only they can answer that.

But all you probably have to do is search this board to come up with hundreds of occasions where JPP teabaggers called the liberal democracies of western Europe "commies", where Bill Clinton and Barack Obama were called Marxist-Socialists.

One has to wonder just how uninformed someone would have to be - or maybe just plain dishonest - to call Bill Clinton Barack Obama, or Hillary Clinton leftists, Marxists, or atheist Kenyan-Muslim-Marxists..

I'm pretty well convinced that large swaths of Americans are told what to believe, which is why they can so easily shift between neoconservative and libertarian, to finally Trump supporter. Obama was the epitome of a centrist, and he was called a communist. Never mind that Dick Cheney was more liberal on gay marriage until like 2012, and that Obama's greatest legacy was implementing Heritage Foundation healthcare reform.

Bernie Sanders is far left, Obama ain't. The Clintons are to the right of Obama. And Trump is neither a liberal nor a conservative. He doesn't have a developed ideology (whichs requires more than a child-like understanding of complex issues), and thus he leans towards brute authoritarianism. Trumpism itself is largely borrowed from Bannon and Sessions.

So yeah, I agree with you.

They can't do something they promised for 7 years. Repeal and replace. They obviously spent zero time during the last 7 years coming up with a different plan. How is this even possible?

Then you get stabbed in the back by McCain, as well as Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine. These 3 morons believe that Obamacare is better.

McCain wants us to go back and work with the dems! LOL! You mean like how they worked with the GOP to pass Obamacare? Without a single GOP vote? How about the fact that Dems have no interest in bipartisanship or repeal n replace? Did you think of that Johnny?

So now with a epic fail that is the GOP; They have become a redundant party. A party that capitulates, gives up, and can't get anything accomplished. Democrats ban together and stick to their own and pass omnibus bills. Spending bills, Obamacare bills. Yeah! They get it all. When the GOP is in charge, you get NOTHING!

Levin is supporting the idea of a true 3rd party. Yes it will split the "GOP" vote, but why does it matter at this point?

I think we need to change election laws, that support the 2 party system. We need to move to a multiparty system like the rest of most democracies. 2 parties is a disaster.

It's not a matter of can't. It's a matter of wont. We essentially have a one party system, the republicans are all talk. They are great at being conservatives when they are out of power or passing bills they know wont actually see the light of day, but when it's actually on the line they don't deliver.

Funny story. Most Trump supporters HATE the GOP. They hate everything that built the GOP, the GOP establishment, and the work that sustains it. When Trump crashes and burns, and his supporters crawl back under their respective rocks, what exactly is left to build on? Neoconservatives (the brains of the GOP) have been destroyed. The libertarian wing has like one member left (Rand Paul), and Trumpism (the brainchild of Sessions and Bannon) is just about on its last leg.

Meanwhile, liberalism is alive and well. Democrats only have to tap into it.

I notice a lot of liberals only figuring out now that trump supporters and the GOP are at odds. Really makes me wonder where you dopes have been for the last year. Trump ran against republicans as much as he ran against the dems, if not more.

I'd argue in the mid '90's they did a pretty good job of passing legislation and getting Clinton to sign it.

But under Obama they were what you discribed. All talk

Seriously. And funny how there was almost zero debate between Bernie and Hillary supporters on this board. Yet Republicans went at it

Meaning what exactly? Republicans jelled behind Trump after he got the nomination like stink on shit.

Strange how talk of dissention between republicans lifts its head now that Trump is a proven failure.

By the time this is over we won't be able to find a single person who claims Donald Trump .. except The Noise of course.

You reject their culture, but there are millions of Muslims living in the US practicing their culture as they choose just as they do all over the planet.

Pew: Why Muslims are the world’s fastest-growing religious group

In the next half century or so, Christianity’s long reign as the world’s largest religion may come to an end, according to a just-released*report that builds on Pew Research Center’s original population growth projections for religious groups.*Indeed, Muslims will grow more than twice as fast as the overall world population between 2015 and 2060 and, in the second half of this century,*will likely surpass Christians*as the world’s largest religious group.

Reject them if you choose .. changes nothing.

Ask the people in the Philippines how well it's working out for them that Muslims are practicing Islamic culture.

Is that supposed to mean something? :0) Do you seriously believe that any government like that in the Philippines is a model for the world?

The Philippines' Death Squad-Loving New President

Rodrigo Duterte rode to victory in last week's Philippine presidential elections on a campaign that included jokes about rape and his own penis, misogynist boasts, and by championing his dubious record on human rights. In his first televised news conference since winning the election, Duterte threatened a gruesome punishment for the worst criminals.

"After the first hanging, there will be another ceremony for the second time, until the head is completely severed from the body," he said.

If you didn't have an opportunity to follow the primary there was an entire #nevertrump movement and there still is you read national review, weekly standard and other assorted conservatives.

There were five democrats on this board who claimed to support Bernie yet there was almost zero, if any, discussions here between Bernie and Hillary supporters.

The never Rump contengent got creamed and ousted. The Sanders and HRC factions came bevy together.

Yes, there was, it just wasn't that intense or long lasting, I wasn't a die hard Bernie supporter, I don't know any who were.

I knew all about what was going on in the republican primary .. but once Trump was nominated, republicans jellied behind him.

Bernie and Hillary supporters were not divided by real or deep philosophical differences and always kept in mind that neither was the enemy, republicans were. There were several discussions that supported their respective candidates, but for the most part, they were civil discussions.

Personally, I held my fire about Sanders, trying not to alienate the people I knew would be needed to defeat the real enemy .. but I knew that Sanders had no chance.

Hillary didn't attack him .. but neither did republicans because they wanted to see him as the nominee.

There were Islamic death squads in the Philippines long before Duterte came to power. I was specifically referring to the entire city of Marawi that ISIL took control of earlier in the summer.

wrong again. Most are called globalists. (which they are). Mccain is in fact a rino though and even planned on switching parties in 2001. He stayed a republican for his own selfish ambitions even though he clearly didn't believe in republican philosophy.
