Jade's Recipe Exchange.

It takes me about three minutes to make one. My system is to buy everything pre-chopped and prepped - i.e., bags of frozen fruit, canned pineapple, canned beets, crinkle cut carrots, etc. The only thing I slice by hand is a fresh banana.
Do you make a big batch for storage or fresh every day? To me, cleaning the blender every day would be a PITA.

The last time I used my blender was a couple weeks ago making Salsa Verde. I made a full batch then froze about 2/3s in large cubes. I'd also done the same with sour cream. They go great with an omelet. :)

I don't make a big batch.

I have a small one-person blender, probably 16 ounces so it's not too much of a chore to clean. It would be easier just opening a bag of potato chips, but I want to live until I'm at least 80!

I've never tried doing guacamole or salsa in my blender, good idea!

You should post your salsa verde recipe!

It turns out we have a one-serving smoothie maker which belonged to my SIL before her passing. Yes, we have no bananas...as the song goes, but will put it on my list.

In the meantime, I'll research recipes.

It's simple and easy with a blender. This is the recipe I used: https://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/tomatillo_salsa_verde/

For storage, I have a large ice tray for making frozen shot glasses. Removing the shot-glass insert, leaves a large shot-glass sized cube which I scooped the Salsa into for freezing. Getting them out required about 5 minutes of thawing since it was made of hard plastic. A silicon mold with 2x2 inch cubes like the one linked below would be a lot easier.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds tomatillos (about 12 medium) I halved and roasted them
  • 1/2 cup chopped white onion
  • 2 cloves (or more) garlic, optional Teaspoon of minced garlic which I always have on hand.
  • 1/2 cup chopped cilantro leaves and stems
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice Squirted from a lime juice plastic container
  • 2 jalapeño or serrano peppers, stemmed, seeded and chopped (you can use whole for more heat if you want) Adjust quantity for less heat
  • Salt to taste

To me the bananna is key, because it gives a smoothie a creamy sweet texture. I try to keep lactose and dairy limited in by diet, so my liquid base for a fruit smoothie is kefir and unsweetened oat milk.

Lactose intolerant or something else? I like milk. Although I prefer skim, my wife prefers whole, so we compromise with 2%.

~Dietary reasons: Kefir and oat milk lower in calories, higher in probiotics compared to conventional milk.
~Texture: Kefir gives a creamy, yogurt-like texture to smoothies.
~Ethical reasons: I'm trying to reduce or limit my reliance on products made from sentient mammals.

You have to be careful with oat milk, it can cause a spike in blood sugar. I quit using it for that reason.

I buy the unsweetened oat milk, do you think the unsweetened variety makes a difference? They sell regular oat milk at the store, along with an unsweetened variety.
