There was no reason to not give Obama's nominee a vote, there was more than enough time to do so. They even had the conformation hearings in their spare time.

There is no way to get enough time to have conformation hearings for trump's nominee. With Senators running for reelection, you would have to call them all back for weeks. They would literally be working on election day. I doubt the Republicans will even support that.

According to the physician spokesman for the hospital he suffered “disturbances in mental clarity, characterized by distorted perceptions,” as doctors weaned him off the drug. The spokesman added that after his Placidyl was cut off, Rehnquist began ”hearing things and seeing things that other people did not hear and see.” The doctors took his dose back up before re-weaning him. By mid-January, Rehnquist returned to the bench...

When Rehnquist’s drug problem became an issue during the 1986 confirmation hearings, Sen. Orrin G. Hatch, R-Utah, defended Rehnquist in a Post story, saying he got into trouble with Placidyl because he was “a very compliant patient” who “followed the advice” of his doctors. Ah, yes, one of the most brilliant jurists of his time was the victim of his rotten doctors for almost a decade!

Are we to believe that one of the court’s sharpest minds never availed himself of a Physicians’ Desk Reference for independent medical information, or in any way tried to educate himself about the drug he was taking in larger and larger quantities...?

I don't know, McConnell stated several months ago that in spite of his refusal to have hearing for the Obama nominee in 2016 that he'll definitely seat a justice this year for trump (see post #65).

Hypocrisy is now the lynchpin of today's Republican.

The radical righties won't allow a radical lefty on the bench. Even if the Democrats pull a hat trick, it's going to be close. The Senate only has a 53-47 majority with Pence as a tiebreaker. If the Republicans lose 4 votes before the new Congress in January, it won't pass. The Democrats would be in a similar position from some of their own Senators.
