Lake Ontario is not named after the province

There are a lot of things in this nation that could use the attention of the POTUS. And he is wasting time renaming a lake?

What will be next? Renaming the Mississippi River?

True.

Trouble is, his efforts get a lot of pushback.

Nobody's perfect. I doubt it took much time, anyway. Did you complain when Obama renamed Mount McKinley?

Maybe the Panama Canal?

Pushback? You mean his work isn't accepted immediately and praised as though coming from God himself? Perish the thought?

Did Carter, Clinton, Obama, or Biden ever rename anything?

Yes.

Obama (2015)

Obama changed North America’s highest peak from Mount McKinley to Denali.

Biden administration (2023)

  • Fort Bragg → Fort Liberty
  • Fort Benning → Fort Moore
  • Fort Hood → Fort Cavazos
  • Fort Gordon → Fort Eisenhower
  • Fort Lee → Fort Gregg-Adams

Other military assets (ships, buildings at the Naval Academy, etc.) were also renamed under the same process.

Clinton

In 1998 he renamed Washington National Airport the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

Carter

No comparable high-profile federal geographic or military-installation rename occurred during his presidency. He created or expanded many national monuments and parks (especially in Alaska), but that is designation of new protected areas rather than renaming existing ones.

Presidents regularly sign bills or issue orders that change names of federal buildings, post offices, and similar facilities.

What renaming bills did Hillary Clinton sponsor during her time in the Senate?

Hillary Clinton sponsored several designation/renaming bills as a New York senator (2001–2009). The ones most often cited:

Thurgood Marshall United States Courthouse

She introduced S. 584 (107th Congress, 2001) to designate the federal courthouse at 40 Centre Street in Manhattan as the Thurgood Marshall United States Courthouse. The Senate passed her bill; a companion House bill (H.R. 988) became law (Public Law 107-33). Marshall had served on the Second Circuit there before joining the Supreme Court.

George Quamo Post Office Building

She sponsored S. 3613 (109th Congress), which became law in 2006. It named the post office at 2951 New York Highway 43 in Averill Park, New York, after George Quamo.

Timothy J. Russert Highway

She sponsored S. 3145, which became law in 2008 and redesignated a stretch of highway in New York.

She also sponsored or co-sponsored additional naming bills that passed the Senate but did not become law.

Are you questioning whether I think it should have stayed what it was for many years? I assure you, I do.

I'm pointing out the absence of any verifiable evidence that you thought so at the time. Note that absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

Trump is into distraction. Renaming things he has no right to rename is one of them. This thread shows that his followers will defend anything he does and happily join the distraction efforts.
