You still refused to answer my question?QP is wrong. The government didn't "bailout" the private sector. The government decided, seeing the success of privately funded highways, and that these could be considered "post roads" and that these were a federal function allowed by the Constitution (Article I, Section 8, Clause 7) that they should institute a standardized set of national highways and took over the privately funded efforts.
The Lincoln Highway and the others I listed were successful but could be improved on. They varied in funding by state, locality, and enthusiasm for it. For example, the route was marked by approximately 3000 concrete posts spaced about a mile apart.
The "Ideal Section" of the highway was funded by Goodyear as a demonstration project for $130,000.
The government did not lead on this, they followed. One thing it wasn't was some "Socialist" program.
I answered it, you just don't like the answer. You still refused to answer my question?
Where?I answered it, you just don't like the answer.
Haha!I answered it, you just don't like the answer.
You committed on the topic, that is not answering.I answered it, you just don't like the answer.
You did not answer anything.I answered it, you just don't like the answer.
Haha!
@T. A. Gardner just keeps repeating things that are factually disproven without addressing the facts that disprove them and showing why they are wrong, if that is what he believes.Where?
They did what they could afford. Over time, they would have continued their efforts, government or not. The government took over this responsibility not because they had to, but because they could. From information provided to @T. A. Gardner he will not try to refute...
- Private funding failed: The original private organization (The Lincoln Highway Association) admitted they did not have the capital to build a continuous coast-to-coast highway. They could only afford to sponsor short, disconnected "seedling miles" to show locals what a paved road looked like and rally public support for government-backed construction. [1]
- The 1921 Federal Aid Highway Act saved it: The private sector completely abandoned funding the route just eight years after starting. The project only succeeded because The Federal Aid Highway Act of 1921 stepped in to provide $75 million in federal matching funds to states to actually pave, connect, and standardize the grid. [1, 2]
- Government took over routing and numbering: In 1926, the federal government officially absorbed the route into the new U.S. Numbered Highway System (primarily becoming US 30). Once the government took over, the private association recognized its job was done and dissolved itself shortly after. [1, 2, 3]
- Public maintenance was required: Private toll and subscription models could not sustain long-term maintenance. According to records from the Federal Highway Administration, the transcontinental road survived only because state and federal governments took over permanent infrastructure upkeep through public tax dollars. [1, 2]

@Hume , @Jarod understand that the above, Lincoln Highway is Terry's #1 cited example and he ignores the above only to repeat later in another chat that the Lincoln Highway was proof of government not being needed to build highways.
He is either completely dishonest or painfully stupid, or both. Every example he has cited fails in a similar way and i have given him all the history thru citations to prove it.
No one cares about your lies when the facts from Lincoln Highway project team and the government at the time are on record and public and clear. Your attempt to lie and spin at the government bigfooting and forcing their way in to the Lincoln Highway project which was on its way to completion without the government is a bare faced lie...They did what they could afford. Over time, they would have continued their efforts, government or not. The government took over this responsibility not because they had to, but because they could.
...
Then cite a successful example as you have tried to already with 5 and failed on each of them....
You miss the distinction. Highways can be privately financed and built, but government has more access to capital than private investors.
...
Absolutely simply cannot. But he also can’t admit he’s wrong. It’s a sickness. Then cite a successful example as you have tried to already with 5 and failed on each of them.
He is comically bad at this. I need to dig back up the AI reply which was almost mocking of how he could get the points so wrong when i copied his post and asked it to fact check it.Absolutely simply cannot. But he also can’t admit he’s wrong. It’s a sickness.
And here comes the word games...Hard to say.
No.It is not pavement that makes a highway functional of not.
It connects to other roadways. It is quite usable. It is its usability and connection.
It actually goes somewhere, Kewpie. Can people reliably use it. Is it connected such that it actually goes somewhere?
ALL roads, tollways, freeways, and highways are built with capitalism.I already showed you a 100% private highway built with no public funds that turned a profit and eventually sold to the state for a HUGE profit. Oh, and ALSO created the transponder technology virtually every state uses now for collecting tolls.
Yet you continue to pretend otherwise.
There is no such thing as a 'fact check', Kewpie. Go learn what 'fact' means.Ok so lets fact check Terry's newest two examples of PROOF OF HOW GOVERNMENT MONEY IS NOT REQUIRED FOR MAJOR ROAD PROJECTS since his prior 4 examples he cited failed miserable only completed due to bailout and tax money.
There is no such thing as a 'fact check', Kewpie. Go learn what 'fact' means. For anyone not reading the long posts the Google fact check of Terry's post is now asking the following question...
Shopping mall roads.Terry? Do you have any examples that actually do not have government funding and bailouts attched as all the examples he has cited so far do.
@T. A. Gardner

Terry is still trying to call the Lincoln Highway the proof when history and their own documents show the Lincoln highway as proof of the exact opposite. A strong group of investors, including Henry Ford who tried and failed and gave up and said 'government needs to do this' as they abandoned the project and began instead lobbying govt to bail it out and finish it.
Terry could not cite a worse example for his case.
