Nationwide Measles Surge

Pennsylvania Governor Shapiro and his DOH framed the event as preventable measles deaths and used it to push MMR uptake and criticize federal vaccine messaging.


Bottom line​


  • There is a measles outbreak in Pennsylvania, concentrated in Lancaster County, among the unvaccinated. That part is real.
  • There are two deaths the state classifies as measles-associated.
  • One, per the county coroner and pathologist, is a newborn whose cause of death is spleen rupture, not measles.
  • The second case has not been explained in public.
  • “Died of measles” vs. “died with measles evidence” is the core factual issue. Secretary Kennedy is right that the Pennsylvania press conference outran the documentation.
Transparency that would settle this without naming families: age groups, whether measles was listed on the death certificate as underlying or contributing cause, and which county certified the second death. That still has not been provided.
 
Lancaster County Coroner Dr. Stephen Diamantoni has said his office has no deaths attributed to measles.

He is investigating one infant who tested positive for measles (postmortem antibodies) but whose primary cause of death was a lacerated/ruptured spleen.

The forensic pathologist “did not feel it was related to measles.” The baby died shortly after birth. Diamantoni has described this as dying with measles, not from measles.

The second death has not been publicly identified and is not a Lancaster County coroner case. Possible explanations include death outside the county, certification by an attending physician as a natural death (no coroner referral), or timing.

Infant case (the only one the local coroner has)
PA DOH now confirms one of the two “measles-associated” deaths is the newborn the Lancaster County coroner is investigating. That was the detail they held back at Tuesday’s press conference.


Coroner Stephen Diamantoni’s position is unchanged and more explicit today:


  • Immediate cause: traumatic laceration of the spleen
  • Forensic pathologist Dr. Wayne Ross: measles was not a contributing factor
  • Measles antibodies present on postmortem testing
  • Born via midwife at a county birthing center; exposure described as close parental contact with someone who tested positive
  • Investigation still open (more testing)
  • On the second death: “We have no idea who that really is.”

COVID closures may have begun as a broadly bipartisan emergency response, but the fight over reopening was anything but bipartisan.

By the summer and fall of 2020, Republicans were overwhelmingly the political force pushing to reopen schools, businesses, and ordinary life. Democrats were far more likely to support continued restrictions, and they had the support of a much larger institutional ecosystem: teachers' unions fighting reopening, public-health authorities advocating continued restrictions, major media overwhelmingly emphasizing COVID risk, and technology platforms enforcing the prevailing public-health consensus.

This right here just proves the lefts herd mentality. This makes zero sense and I am sure Walt will correct it. In the meantime evince is thanking him for post that truly means nothing.
