That's how inefficient and poor solar is as a means to produce electricity. The simple fact is that the watt-density of sunlight is too low and you spend most of the day below maximum efficiency or not producing power at all to make solar viable and competitive.

I didn't install anything. It so happens that my buddy leased land to a solar company less than a mile from my house. He gets $60k/year in rent, and I get a discount because my energy comes from his solar farm. There are solar farms popping up everywhere in the county.
