Obama Presidential Center set to open.

Nobody takes the architectural design opinions of MAGA shit flingers seriously.

The building's architectural style is combination of modernism with overtones of brutalism, a style whose main feature is raw concrete exteriors.

Brutalist architecture is not everybody's cup of tea, but some of the greatest architects in modern history were proponents of it.

Nils Schweitzer, an award winning architect and one time protogé of Frank Lloyd Wright, designed the main downtown branch of the Orlando Public Library in the brutalist style....

..... people seem to love it.

I don't think Obama or the more sophisticated residents of Chicago are going to lose any sleep over the opinions of a bunch of MAGA nose-pickers.
TA's just triggered because the last 2 Republican presidents started illegal, criminal, never-ending wars of choice and under the last 3 Democratic presidents we had nothing but peace and prosperity.

He's trying to troll us to console his troubled soul.

No. Trump's ballroom is baroque at best and probably--when finished if it is--will need serious updating in the future to make it more contemporary and stylish.
Every Republican president in modern times has been a world-class disaster except for Bush one. Obama's popularity must really keep your sorry trumptard ass up at night : )

No, it'd still be a hideous Early American Fuhrer Bunker-style monstrosity. The design is fugly.
Taste is subjective.

Most great architecture is often criticized at first then people start to like it.

I suspect that will be the case with this building.

I already think it looks cool.

The Foundation has been criticized for accepting donations from groups that Obama criticized during his presidency, as well as complaints from residents who live near the future site of the center about the effects of the construction.

As he was leaving the Oval Office, Obama joined his wife, Michelle, in a video imploring Americans to contribute ideas to his foundation, calling it a “living, working center for citizenship.” Part of the foundation’s stated mission is developing “what it means to be a good citizen in the 21st century.”5

As plans for the Obama Presidential Center became clearer, some citizens expressed their displeasure. Residents who live near Jackson Park, the future site for the center, voiced their concerns at a planning meeting in July 2017, critiquing ideas on closing roads, moving some natural areas, and determining how to provide economic benefit to surrounding neighborhoods.

The plan to close Cornell Drive, a busy thoroughfare connecting South Lake Shore Drive to the Chicago Skyway, to create five acres of park space around the Presidential Center also proved controversial.

In January 2025, it was reported that concrete and rebar firm II in One filed a lawsuit against Thornton Tomasetti, the New York-based company in charge of engineering the Obama Presidential Center, while accusing the company of “”excessively rigorous and unnecessary” inspection standards” as well as accusing them of “racial discrimination.” According to the lawsuit, II in One owner Robert McGee seeks $41 million his firm lost due to discriminatory actions taken by Thornton Tomasetti while further alleging the company directly undermined the Obama Foundation’s DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) goals and commitments and mission to bring transformative change to the construction industry and local community.

This thread isn't about him. Is it?

It's about defending Obama's Presidential Center from the undeserved shit being flung at it by MAGA trash.

This is accomplished by pointing out how trump is infinitely worse in every area than Obama.

Whereas I think it's derivative, monotonous, and obtuse.

Big words for you, but they don't even apply.

Derivative of what? All architecture is derivative of something else. It's called "inspired by".

Monotonous? How are trump's buildings more interesting than any other run of the mill high rises? They aren't. They're monotonous.

Obtuse? How can a building be obtuse? I'd say the critics of it are obtuse.
