Derivative of what? All architecture is derivative of something else. It's called "inspired by".

Monotonous? How are trump's buildings more interesting than any other run of the mill high rises? They aren't. They're monotonous.

Obtuse? How can a building be obtuse? I'd say the critics of it are obtuse.

Derivative in that it borrows heavily from existing architectural forms in its monolithic appearance, use of a granite facade, and windowless facia.

Monotonous in that it doesn't bring any unique or memorable design qualities. It looks like so much else.

Obtuse in that it doesn't resemble what it purports to be. That makes it stand out in a bad way. That makes it obtuse.

Trump's buildings are a combination of baroque and megalomaniacal. That is, they emphasize both the developer's (Trump) poor taste and inflated ego. Obama's building looks like he was going for something unique but ended up with something bland that sticks out like a sore thumb, a true eye sore on the landscape. Trump's stuff can be ignored as it blends meaninglessly into the landscape it's set in.

Trump's proposed library looks like it'd fit in some futuristic dystopian, cyberpunk movie rather than a library.
