If your claim is that Christian fundamentalists are no longer looking to introduce mandatory Bible study in elementary schools, that's good news. I wonder if I can believe it?

The word "mandate" is used twice. The people who wrote it called it a mandate. The people fighting to cancel it called it a mandate.

Yep. Unlike modern American Xtians, the colonial Christians immigrated here to escape real religious persecution in Europe. They knew first hand the dangers of a state religion and wished to prevent it occurring here. Even in grade school, we were taught these facts. I have no idea why some fundies seems to be unaware of history.

Many came to escape kings and worship of kings. The be a Christian faced persecution.

Most of the colonies here had a religious test to serve in government. It was completely legal. In some States, it still is.
Oklahoma happens to be one of them.

A religious studies education is important for many reasons, but in part because it's important for our Christian fundamentalist contemporaries to hear that separation of church and state was originally their own idea.
