Oregon LEGALIZES ALL DRUGS even heroin, cocaine, and meth!!

very tastey.

a friend of mine was the local dealer. he'd carry dimes and quarter ounce or 2 -when you needed to cop you found out where he was and you knew he was holding. he'd get in kilos and cut them up

One night a bunch of us freaks were crossing the street and plainclothes guys jumped out of a car and grabbed him. then sped away It as so fast I was like "huh"
Anyhow we were tripping if I recall and decided to go down to the cop station and get him out.

So a bunch of freaks walks in and ask the desk sergeant can we get him out..
They had dope all over the wall - like on display with descriptions..
i wondered off and started to bug anyone about how I can get that
.

Eventually they tired of us and tossed us out.. but he did do a few months at city jail

lol!

And it saves a fuck-ton of money. Our prison-industrial complex is eating our society alive. It has to be abolished.

:rofl2:

Because providing "free" government-funded "health care services'", "drug addiction treatment centers", "stable housing" for "One in every 11 Oregonians" are surely going to be cheaper than jail, because the authors of the measure said so?

I wonder how fast the Beaver State is going to gnaw through their "$100 million in marijuana tax revenue".

yes. thing is legalization or decriminalizaton isnt going to change drug use it does change how we mange and treat it -what we are doing is wrong, denying pain meds to sick people as well

Nobody is being forced to use addictive drugs.

I'm pretty sure that people know that addictive drugs are addictive before they get addicted.

Why should the taxpayers cough up money to underwrite a probably-fruitless crusade to save people from their own poor decisions?

cough up what money? do you have any idea of the hundreds of billions spent on the drug war, directly and indirectly?

It goes without saying that machinery should never be operated by a drunk or someone on drugs.

Yet it happens. A lot.

This measure prohibits police from exercising probable cause searches of a vehicle, even if they can see drugs or paraphernalia.

The changes have taken some time to digest and disseminate to law enforcement, said Chris Parosa, senior prosecutor for the Lane County District Attorney’s Office.

There are some nuances to the measure that will effect the way officers conduct themselves on a scene.

"For example when officers walk up (to a car) and immediately notice a pipe commonly used to smoke some illicit drug from it, ordinarily, if a police officer saw that, they would immediately develop probable cause for a potential felony," Parosa said.

"Now, if they were to walk up and find a pipe, which we can only assume has a residue quantity of drugs in it, it's no more than a violation."

This prevents law enforcement from then searching vehicles because they can't develop reasonable suspicion, which is the grounds that allows them to ultimately continue to search for evidence of a crime, Parosa said.

In Oregon - which is what we're discussing, it's not "hundreds of billions spent on the drug war".

Read the measure. I posted the whole thing.

BTW, the prisons aren't going to shut down because some leftists got this passed, so you can forget about any zero-sum arguments.

im not limiting to one state efforts. The DEA is a federal agency, that's where the big policies are made

I thought that Congress and the legislatures in all 50 states (soon to be 51, 52, or 53) made the big policies.

Can you cite an example of a successful drug decriminalization effort comparable to Oregon's?

DEA is the agency that makes the polices of Congressional mandate. on the federal level.
They do the Schedules -illegal, high/low risk, or not for controlled substance

You must have "forgotten" to mention that the Portuguese government is providing "free" clean needles and giving addicts "free" drugs in "supervised settings" and a guaranteed minimum income.

Naturally, HIV infections and drug-related deaths have decreased.

From the 2009 opinion piece you cited:

Peter Reuter, a criminologist at the University of Maryland, College Park, says he's skeptical...

For the vast majority of people, the "problem" with drugs is that they end up doing jail time for them. Outside of that, drugs do nothing but provide recreation and, occasionally, a mind-altering experience for most.

HAHAHAHA. Did you really say that.? Drugs just provide recreation???!!!! Hell - even a legal dug like nicotine costs america like $300+ billion every year in health care, A legal drug like alcohol also causes huge health problems and causes thousands of highway deaths each year. Drugs are a huge plague in all societies. THINK
