The current iteration of Israel dates back to 1948.
The Land of Israel dates back to Moses. That is one of the basic tenets of Judaism, and is clearly stated in the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. Denying the existence of Israel for 3,000+ years is denying the Bible. The current government of Israel got independence in 1948, but Israel has been there since Moses.

just like it's dishonest to pretend that Palestine was country ever since the Romans gave the region that name.
Is Scotland a country? According to FIFA(soccer), Rugby Union, ICC(cricket), etc. it is. According to the Olympic, and the United Nations, it is not. It is complex.

Scotland, Canada, and Palestine were kingdoms within empires, which makes them sort of countries, and sort of not.

You're talking about a joke, but Owly wasn't joking: she was pretending to be knowledgeable, and she was also being rude and insulting.

She thought that she was giving a real answer and now that everyone knows how dumb it was you guys are covering for her.

Why do you care so much about her stupid answer? Is there something I should know? Is she dying of cancer or something? Because if she's not, then she should just try to learn from this, and in the future, stick to slander and stupid memes like Crepitus, instead of trying to use "facts" from CNN
WRONG.

Again the very FACT she used 200 exactly, tells anyone not stupid she was not trying to be exacting. the idea she thought this was the EXACT 200 anniversary is something only you as a stupid thinks or more clearly as i said prior...

...

I think you understand that and are trying to nitpick and focus on the literal as you feel you cannot engage the core and accurate point she made.
...

Nonsense. Roads are built by private contractors. Other than the interstate system most aren't even initially paid for by government. You are wrong about thinking "If they build it, they will come." That's not how useful roads work.
Your focus on the construction part of roads is just stupid. You are being stupid.

When you look at the grid of roads connecting the cities, States and Country and how they come about to exist in a country like the US and not a country like Afghanistan is not due to Afghanistan simply not having a good construction company.

Roads that exist, such as in the US come about because there is a government in charge at each level, who provides the security, and TAXATION base to then allow for the hiring.

If you go into any current country that has no such road infrastructure that is almost certainly because they have no stable gov't and no way to fund it (taxes, other) .

You thinking the way to get them roads is to just plop a good construction firm in, when they have no security, no stable gov't and no tax base to fund, just shows how stupid you are.

Gov't is the KEY to road networks wherever they exist. The Construction companies play the role of the tool who are engaged to do the labor, important but NOT the vital part of how these roads exist.

You do not seem to know how roads work.
It is sometimes hard to understand if Terry is as stupid as he pretends to be here or if he is just so tainted by his anti gov't bias that he simply cannot think clearly or assess anything logically?

that he does not understand that as you look around the world and see the countries with good connecting road networks that it takes a form of stable gov't, and some form of tax as the key to them, shows the depths of his stupidity or bias. You can put the best construction in the remaining countries with no real road network and you will not get any roads. It takes a good stable gov't with some form of power to tax.

The Land of Israel dates back to Moses.
It predates the dinosaurs. So what? It's just dirt, rocks and sand.

There were a lot of countries that existed 3,000 years ago that aren't here today... What's your point?
That is one of the basic tenets of Judaism, and is clearly stated in the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. Denying the existence of Israel for 3,000+ years is denying the Bible. The current government of Israel got independence in 1948, but Israel has been there since Moses.
The bible isn't a legal document. Sorry to burst your bubble.
And there's nothing controversial about that.
Is Scotland a country? According to FIFA(soccer), Rugby Union, ICC(cricket), etc. it is. According to the Olympic, and the United Nations, it is not. It is complex.

Palestine never had any semblance of sovereignty: it was never more than a province, as far as governance is concerned. There was no constitution, no court system, no unique set of laws, no independent army, no self-appointed rulers with final authority, there was never any doubt where the taxes went to, etc.

Not to mention the fact that at the moment "Palestine" got its name, it was still just "Israel, sitting conquered within the Roman Empire". The people of that region were still Israelis at heart, and had absolutely no connection to the idea of "Palestine". It's like if Russia conquered the US and called the whole area "Berekeley" just to piss off Republicans. If the Russians got pushed out, the area wouldn't have to be keep the name Berkeley until the end of time.

Even states within the US have far more "sovereignty" than Palestine ever did, because at least they have control over a lot of their own laws, they have their own courts, they have their own police, etc. Every state has hundreds of people with executive authority, who are not appointed federally.

WRONG.

Again the very FACT she used 200 exactly, tells anyone not stupid she was not trying to be exacting. the idea she thought this was the EXACT 200 anniversary is something only you as a stupid thinks or more clearly as i said prior...
You're just proving your stupidity again.
FYI saying 200 is only reasonable if the answer is from 150 to 249.
Even at 149, 200 is an incorrect answer, but 245 would be "acceptable". Is 249 the same as 60? Is it close?

Dummy.... giving 200 as an answer, when the answer is 60, is off by an order of magnitude. FYI being off by an oder of magnitude is never "correct".

The answer was equivalent to "3 generations ago", and she gave "ten generations ago" as an answer. Do you understand that the difference between "my grandma", and "My grandma's, grandma's, grandma's, mom" is worlds apart?
Almost everyone on earth knows their grandma, or at least what her name was and where she lived, but very few people on earth know who their great, great, great... grandmas from ten generations ago were or where they lived. Unless you're royalty, there's a zero percent chance.

200 years ago your ancestors all used candles and lamps for light, they heated their homes with wood or coal, and they rode horses - if they had them. You don't know any of their names and most of them lived in different countries, even from each other. Some of them spoke languages that you don't know, and didn't even speak any English.

Your ancestors from 60 years ago are people you ate dinner with, many times, and they drove cars on paved roads.

Oly was just stupid and wrong. She was lying when she pretended to know. Why do you care? That's normal for you guys.

You do not seem to know how roads work.
Right back at ya. Before automobiles, roads usually started as wagon tracks that were gradually improved. Toll roads were also a common thing. A private enterprise built the road and then charged those using it a small fee for passage. It was rare for government to be the one paying to build a road.

With the automobile, the same thing occurred. Wagon roads became automobile roads. They gradually improved over time through private enterprise.

Things like the Roman military road system are the exception from history, not the rule.

Israel, as opposed to Canaan, was the land given to the Jews right after Moses. It did not exist before Moses, buy Canaan did.

Whether it was God, or the shift in history caused by the Late Bronze Age Collapse, Israel came into being. Somewhere along the line, it became very important to Jews. You can think of the time we are away from Israel as us having a nation-in-exile, much like the occupied powers during WWII had governments-in-exile.

Not to mention the fact that at the moment "Palestine" got its name, it was still just "Israel, sitting conquered within the Roman Empire".
Actually, Israel as a government had ceased to exist centuries before the Roman Empire. There is some question whether Jews were ever involved with the original Kingdom of Israel. Palestine was what Judea and Samaria became.

Absolutely none of this is as simple as you claim.

I don't claim it's simple.
  1. I don't even claim that anything from pre-1800 has anything to do with the existence of the current iteration of Israel.
  2. The bible means nothing to me
  3. I'm neutral towards Jews
  4. I probably wouldn't have been a huge proponent of the partitioning of "Palestine" back in the day
  5. but Israel is there now, and it's full of humans who treat each other well-enough, and they've been more than fair with the muslims from that region for the last 75 years.
  6. muslims who aren't happy in Gaza, or the W Bank, or within Israel itself have dozens of countries that they can move to where their bigotry is codified into law
The way I see it, none of the muslims in the ME - or anywhere on earth - gave a shit about the plight of Sikhs and Hindus when Pakistan was arbitrarily partitioned and then went and killed 800,000+ non-muslims and drove out 8M more.

What happened in Israel was just a teeny, tiny, mini-mini-nabka compared to what happened in Pakistan, and yet Iran normalized relations with Pakistan before the flies could even land on all those bodies. So did almost all of the Arab countries. You know... all the ones who have been attacking Israel for 75 years "because of the Pakistani-like partition that happened in Palestine 8 months later".

Truth be told, the more you know about mohammed, islam, and the way that islamic countries/empires/caliphates of today, and of years long gone by, have all dealt with people from different religions, the more sympathetic that you will be towards Israelis/Jews.
