Pruitt is out at EPA

There are at least two "hot" spots in the STL area where radioactive materials were dumped during the Cold War. One is at Weldon Spring, the other in North STL County. The North County one is the scariest. It was buried, and later a landfill was created nearby. In 2010 the managers noticed that there was (and still is) now a subsurface fire approaching the area of the radioactive waste. It's a Superfund Site. The fire is still burning. People in the area have not been able to sell their homes and move away.

Santana Tom is crying tears of joy with this news.

Did I, stalker? Why don't you find that for us?

English language punctuation seems to be a mystery to you, doesn't it, DEMOCRAT?

Are you denying that you bought Obama's bombastically bloviating blatant blather, DEMOCRAT?

I'll understand if you don't want to answer that question.

Loser.

:rofl2:

I am sure that those at the coal face are eminently sensible and level headed, but a fish rots from the head first. Lisa Jackson and Gina McCarthy did their level best to turn the EPA into a government offshoot of Greenpeace. Tell me why the EPA got into climate science, when did that become part of their remit?

Oh Tom that’s conspiracy theory nonsense. I mean if you ever worked with anyone from the agency you would laugh until your sides hurt at your Greenpeace comment. :)

:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

Outstanding analysis and post. Mr. Owl aka Mr. Capitalist absolutely agrees with you. Well said.

It's no accident that one of Twittler's first moves was to slap tariffs on solar technology. The ONLY reason was to punish and thereby diminish competition to the oil/gas/coal sector. I don't know about you, but I see this as the exact opposite of what America's brand of regulated capitalism is all about.... isn't it about competition? May the best company/brand/technology/product win?
According to free market fundamentalism it should be but the truth is they have alway picked winners and losers based on the influence of interest groups.

Evangelicals have always opposed conservationists and environmentalists.

https://slate.com/technology/2018/0...f-environmentalism-explains-scott-pruitt.html

Sorry Kud but that’s a flawed and biased hit peace. Our greatest conservationist President, TR, was a Republican. Most of our biggest environmental laws were signed into law by Republican Presidents with large bipartisan support including the Environmental Protection Act, The Clean Air Act, The Clean Water Act, The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, The Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act, The Superfund Amendment and Reauthorization Act, etc,.

Also, some of the best EPA admistrators like William Ruckelshaus, Carol Browner, Christine Todd Whitman were Republicans. and no President did more to develop and implement the modern environmental movement than Richard Nixon did.

So yes partisan poison on the extremes have created a conservative pro business backlash on environmental protection but I must emphasize that is on the extremes and I should point out that Pruitt faced a lot of opposition to his policies from within the GOP and the public which lead to his demise.

So yes there is a current problem with anti-science ideologues attempting regressively to roll back regulation but it should be noted that those attempts have largely failed due to lack of bipartisan support including from whithin the GOP.

It does seem those GOP supporters have fallen asleep. They aren’t protecting the EPA or it appears so.

Yea Tom they actually are. Prior to the major environmental acts of 60’s and to a greater extent the 70’s and 80’s environmental industry and technology was little more then dumping it in a hole into the ground or the nearest body of water, river or streams or up a smoke stack. With the exponential growth of our industrial output and our population growth the problem dwarfed the what it had been prior to the war. So most of these industries and tecnologies are less than 40 years old. Which is a moot point. The coal industry is far older. The only one turning it’s back on coal in the US is the free market. So if that market develops methods and technologies to exploit new markets with out the current massive environmental degradation and pollution involved than so be it.

Which is completely beside my point. My point is the development of environmental technologies and processes which reduce waste and increase efficiencies at scalable orders of magnitudes have created far more economic growth and jobs than regressive deregulation of an industry that is becoming obsolete. This not the result of tree hugging liberals but has been determined by market forces.

You are speaking for the US where Obama actively intervened to kill the coal market, something that Clinton would have continued to do. UCG is relatively new as indeed are all the clean coal initiatives. Strange how Germany, Japan, Korea are able to devise new ways to clean up coal. I would also like to know where you copied that screed from, if they are your words then you should be a spinmeister for a PR agency, not a garbage collection operative.

I didn't say Republican.. I said Evangelical......

Coal mining jobs have declined steadily since 1950.. That's reality.. and natural gas is cheaper.. and cleaner.

Evangelicals have always opposed conservationists and environmentalists.

This seems like an apt rejoinder to a religious bigot such as yourself, krudzu:

Let me know if you don't know what any of the bigger words mean, OK?

Coal mining jobs have declined steadily since 1950.. That's reality.. and natural gas is cheaper.. and cleaner.

Is that so? Could that be due to automation, government regulation driving mines out of business and forcing consumers and utilities to find alternative fuels, krudzu?

natural gas is cheaper.. and cleaner.

It's cheaper?

Does that mean you support fracking, krudzu?

I know all that, but Ma Clinton was determined to finish it off. Anyway it seems you've never heard of Underground Coal Gasification either! There many ways to clean the flue gases from coal power stations and to improve dramatically the efficiencies.

Do you want the US government to build new coal fired power plants or would you force investors to do so?

Of course. The Saudis have used fracking since 1960.
