Rapper Lil Wayne facing 10 years prison for being felon with a gun

The point is that felony involves victims. Who was the victim here?

The objective is to not give someone with a demonstrated history of criminal activity using a firearm (like this guy's Arizona conviction for having illegal drugs and a gun implying he might be dealing and using the firearm for protection in his criminal activity--but I don't have details of that conviction, then another conviction in New York for possession of a firearm after that), has reasonable cause on the part of the government to believe that in the future the person might use a firearm to further more criminal activity. So, they are barred from possession. That's reasonable, victim or not.
In this case, Lil Wayne stupidly took a gun on an aircraft without declaring it. Given airport security today this is a major mistake for anybody to make. But it is particularly egregiously stupid to do it when you have TWO (2) prior convictions for firearms possession like he does! You should know if you get caught with a gun you are looking at some serious time. If this retard really needed a gun that bad for whatever reason, given his resources he should have purchased one by whatever nefarious means he got the one he was caught with after leaving the airport. Instead, he went full retard and took it on a plane.

This is not just felon with a gun. He deserves time for grossly exceeding the stupid limit and doing like 80 stupid things an hour in a 10 stupid thing an hour zone.

And yet there's no victim.

The average sentence for felon in possession on a federal charge, like Lil Wayne is 82 to 88 months. That's 6 to 7 years. If it's a repeat offense (like it is here) that's going to be enhanced. If you have priors that gets it enhanced. Dude is hit. It's that simple.

Wayne should claim this is cruel and unusual punishment. 10 years for a victimless crime. I suspect one of these days the SC will strike down all laws that take away gun rights for NON-violent felonies.
