Diversity Makes Greatness
Hello leaningright,
Naturally, I disagree.
The government has no control over what is shown on PBS.
Since Cruz makes this assumption, Cruz is most definitely wrong.
I'll have to wear that badge. Sesame Stree wasn't allowed in my parent's house when I was growing up. I was born in '66 and it started in '69 I believe. I didn't turn it on for my kid or encourage him to watch it when he was growing up either. I didn't forbid it, but I didn't encourage it either. And just like explaining the anti-hunting theme of Bambi, if we watched something like that I wanted him to be old enough to understand some of the obvious political messages that can only be called indoctrination. If anyone is going to indoctrinate my kid it needs to be me.
The caution about the show does not stem from "Hispanic or non-white characters" or "Characters with disabilities" but to say there is no [leftist] political agenda on that show is to be disingenuous.
The Big Bird thing is definitely using a government funded child's character to promote one point of view to children. While it is a point of view that I agree with, government has no business doing this, IMO. So I reiterate, Ted isn't wrong. My vote is still "other."
Naturally, I disagree.
