Spencer Pratt

California has been removing power from cities and counties for many decades.....it is not clear that changing Mayors would help much.
There's truth in the first sentence, the biggest being the state having to stop local NIMBY's.

The second part is not correct. Look at SF and Daniel Lurie and the difference his leadership has made. And look at Karen Bass and her lack of leadership during the Palisades fire and compare that to Rick Caruso.

Mayors absolutely play an important role.

By what metrics are you claiming SF has gotten better?

Crime down and criminals being charged, instead of set free. The clearing of homeless camps and making more people receive services. The attitude of the City as a whole is much more positive.

Pratt's a has-been actor who couldn't make it in show business. He'll do and say anything for publicity.
Which is why I find the whole "controversy" rather silly. Personally, California politics under Newsom leaves A LOT to be desired. He's just trying to place himself for a near future POTUS run (God help us!). If the GOP could come up with a better candidate than Pratt who didn't have their head up the Orange Oaf's ass, that would be interesting.

Newsom was doing well until he refused to tax the rich and his positions on Israel. He has hurt his chances.

Will Spencer Pratt be the next mayor of L.A.? Karen Bass has already proven she sucks at the job. He is out raising her 10 to 1 in money . Plus he is getting free viral ads that are pretty cleaver. He says he wants to fix LA's problems. Bass didn't fix LA's problem when she had her chance to do it.
I would be shocked if he won and actually hope he doesn’t. LA is finished. Commiefornia is finished. He won’t be able to do much with a marxist city council. They have cheating wired in Commiefornia. Republicans thinking they can win these kinds of seats is a fools errand

Best we can hope for is for Commiefornistan to fall into the sea after the BIG ONE. But not before every liberal/socialist/marxist/communist, illegal immigrant and RINO moves there first

Pratt is perfect for Republicans. he sells crystals that will protect you from bad energy and evil spirits.
He and Heidi spent all their money, 10 million, preparing for the Mayan apocalypse.
He fits right into the Trump world.

Bullshit.
Define 'rich'.
Newsom spoke out against the proposed 5% wealth tax on billionaires measure they are trying to put on the November ballot.

It’s not like Newsom is some supply side low tax supporter. But even he argued it will hurt the state economy and drive away high net worth individuals the state relies upon.

CA is already bleeding high earners and corporations. CA is lost unless they elect some intelligent politicians.
Should he be elected, Pratt will not have the city government's political support to repair the damage that has been going on for years.

The Mayor of LA and the ballot measure are two different things.

Californians love their ballot measures. Even if there was a Republican Governor they could campaign against a wealth tax ballot measure, but they couldn't single handily stop it from going on the ballot.

But the fact that even Newsom is speaking out against it shows you the concern over it.

I was speaking of a mavrick mayor vs. a well-ensconced City Council.

Bill Maher: “Did you know that a black fourth grader in Mississippi is 2 1/2 times as likely to be proficient in math and reading as one in California? Mississippi is kicking our a$$ in education and for way less money. We’re 37th in 4th-grade reading, they’re 9th.”

“Texas is kicking our a$$ in green energy. The average time to get solar panels connected there is 3 to 4 months. About 1,000 days faster than it took me. Remember when I was trying to get my solar hooked up?”

“It would have been quicker to build a windmill.”

“Texas has passed California in solar and blows away California when it comes to wind and energy storage. How does a state with no pro-climate policies produce better climate results than a state where here, even though we have so much better bumper stickers on our Priuses?”

"I’ll tell you why. Because you’re allowed to build there because every 3rd person in Texas isn’t someone whose job it is to make sure nothing gets done. Democrats, these are your issues: education, race, the environment.”

“And I say this with love; you’re losing to the Waffle House, car-on-the-lawn states.”

Gotcha. You are spot on. Even in SF our ‘moderate’ Mayors often have trouble passing their agenda because of progressives on the city council.

So yeah, someone like Pratt would have even more of a challenge.

You do not go through the time and trouble of moving to another state for 5 percent tax. You would not give up the beaches, mountains, shopping, and exciting California life.

Most billionaires have homes across the country, and the globe. So the idea that if they're not in California full time they won't have access to beaches, mountains or shopping doesn't really carry water.

Now if this were to pass not every billionaire is going to leave the state of course. But California relies heavily on income tax from the rich, thus even a small number of wealthy people leaving has a material impact on the state's budget.

You can look at European countries that passed wealth taxes and have since repealed them. Gavin Newsom is a Democrat but he (among many others) has spoken out against this measure in California.

I'm happy to post the whole article if you want to read it, but it shows people are already moving. It's not an abstract idea.

California’s Tax-Weary Billionaires Seek Refuge on Lake Tahoe’s Nevada Shore

The proposed wealth tax has the superwealthy paying a premium for homes across the state line
