Teacher accused of domestic battery, strangulation

Online court records show Theron Schmid was charged with felony counts of domestic battery in the presence of a child, strangulation, intimidation and criminal mischief.

The victim told police Schmid returned home drunk, then repeatedly strangled and threatened her in front of a 4-year-old child, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Attica schools Superintendent Sheri Hardman says the administration doesn't comment on personnel matters.

Teacher arrested after firing gun in home

According to a news release from the McFarland Police Chief Aaron Chapin, officers responded to North Autumn Lane at 3:52 p.m. Wednesday on a report of gunfire. Officers from the Madison Police Department, Cottage Grove Police Department and the Dane County Sheriff's Office all responded to the scene to help ensure safety.

All of the other residents inside left the house without injury following the gunshot. By 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, more than four hours after the initial law enforcement response, the man agreed to leave his home without a fight, and he was arrested without further incident.

The man, who Chapin identified as Jared Redders, was booked into Dane County Jail on pending charges for first-degree recklessly endangering safety and endangering safety by use of a firearm.

The McFarland School District confirmed Redders is a teacher and is still employed.

Teacher served arrest warrants, awaiting arraignment

High school teacher Kyle Smith, 41, was served arrest warrants and will be arraigned in Springdale District Court on December 14.

The court date would be changed to a trial date if an attorney enters an appearance and a not guilty plea for Mr. Smith prior to the arraignment date, according to a City of Springdale prosecuting attorney.

Police served arrest warrants for Smith for the charges of assault in the 2nd degree and battery in the 3rd degree,

When asked if the school district was aware of the arrest warrants, Trent Jones, a spokesperson for Springdale Public Schools, said that “the district doesn’t discuss personnel.”

Teacher, author of children's books arrested for past sexual abuse of a child: police

The Riverside Police Department's Sexual Assault – Child Abuse Unit (SACA) began an investigation into Paul Edward Lowe, 61, of Corona after a man reported he had been sexually abused by his 4th grade teacher years ago. Most of the sexual assaults occurred away from school, but there were some occasions when the abuse took place on campus.

Lowe also worked with a youth camp and wrote children's books under the name of "Edric Phoenix."

Detectives arrested and booked Lowe into the Robert Presley Detention Center for the recent allegations, and the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office has since charged him with 14 counts of sexual assault against a child. He is currently being held in custody on $5 million bail.

I happen to agree with Lionfish when it comes to government-funded public "education", for a variety of reasons.

One would have to hope, leaning, that the cost of living in Oklahoma is somewhat different from the cost of living in Boston.
It's got to be. For one thing, we can't shoot our own food!

Yes. It is different. The COL in Oklahoma is pretty low. We have the lowest gas prices in the country as well. Of course we Don have the history of Boston but we do have lots of Native heritage museums.

Shooting (and raising and foraging) our own food has been a way of life for many of us since long before statehood … which was 1906. Obviously we’re a very young state compared to Massachusetts. As far as meat is concerned, we buy a little chicken and a little pork each year, but that’s about it.

Unfortunately, many conservatives throw out the baby with the bath water when it comes to public education. There are a myriad of conservative educators (admittedly mostly rural) in my state…and Florida and Alabama and Georgia and Texas and Mississippi and … well, you get the picture. Many of us who believe that the way out of poverty and subsequently off of the government dole is education. Many of us believe in local control of our schools. But we get little to no support in this country from conservative politicians and are often lumped together with NEA types. So every once in a while I have to speak up.

Understandable.

I would stipulate that there is no federal constitutional mandate for regulating education at all, and I further believe that parents, not county governments, should control and provide for their own offspring's educational needs. If, as private individuals they want to join with their neighbors to accomplish that task, that would be fine, absent government oversight.

Many will say that's a hardship, but it was the way education worked for millennia.
