Nothing new in what I’m about to present here other than to pull together what I’ve been saying all over the internet into a single, hopefully coherent, format:
I’ve been saying what we are currently experiencing; politically, socially, economically, it is not new. It is the repetition of past later 19th Century trend lines of the post Civil War through the Industrial Revolution and into the early 20th Century global economic collapse and manifests itself as World War 2.
That the Theodore Roosevelt “Square Deal” and Franklin Roosevelt “New Deal” doctrines were approaches by different political parties before and after the fact of the economic collapse, but both made to preserve capitalism and democracy in the face of growing unrest that was creating fifth column factions tilting us toward fascism on the Right and communism on the Left as extremist responses to the actions of the “Robber Barons” and their harsh “Gilded Age” concepts as what they considered a fair division of the fruits of labor, capital investment and innovation of ideas that produce wealth.
A perhaps major difference between the two periods though being the Robber Barons of that first Gilded Age were still inclined toward belief in things like democracy and the separation of powers defined in our Constitution.
I do not see such inclination in the Robber Barons of today. They seem far more leaning toward the destruction of democracy and the three body approach of checks and balance, favoring instead autocratic rule by a committee of themselves dividing up global resources, carving up the world between them.
Regardless, these forces from our past are on the move again driving us to a nexus where something is going to break. Like I have stated, nothing of this is particularly new. We’ve been here before.
The question is what direction do we break in at that nexus point?
Will it be either of the two extremes or will common sense once again present a coming together behind someone with vision and charisma to galvanize people of like minds, form coalition, and recognition of similar self interests to create a majority to pull us back toward a more centered, less reactionary, course of actions that creates a new “Greatest Generation” (which was merely a way of labeling that renewed conviction to centered, common sense, practical pragmatism as our base societal belief system that recognized democracy and true capitalism - while imperfect - as the best humanity has to offer as a means to living together and prospering in the endeavor).
Whether we have learned enough from our past that the nexus will appear before, or again after, a cataclysmic catastrophic event and what direction we pick, that is the sole question we’ll have to answer.
