The very appropriate parallel to Germany in the '30s

Three-hour riot. I made Chief back when it was still an ordeal to go through the initiation. Now, it's a joke. I was always a 'hard hat' chief that wore the combination cap too. I got my first anchors from a Chief that made it on the USS Indianapolis and passed those on to another Chief later on. There's no "bitter(ness)" involved. There's the hard-core Rickover ground it in reality and do it right philosophy that grates on anyone who isn't in that mindset (eg., you).

A good engineering Chief is much like what you perceive a Captain in the Marines is. You are revered as a near god. There's a problem with something, you solve it and the officers cum themselves that they have somebody on board that can make it happen. The ship gets underway on time, stays on station, and finishes the mission. That takes good engineers.
What would Admiral Rickover think about you taking home classified material and Navy property, Chief?

My point is, if Trump wanted to remain in power for life, don't you think he'd have done a lot more in the FOUR YEARS he was in office? You trot out Jan 6--a three hour riot that ended up doing NOTHING as some huge proof that Trump was intending a dictatorship. Are you-- yea, you are-- You are fucking delusional!

If you had a real case to make, you'd have way more, massively more, than that stupid assed riot on Jan 6 as some sort of proof to make your case.

Your continual defense of Trump is interesting. Why do you revere him so much?

For those who want to understand Trump and other authoritarians check out book below, it is a deep and interesting read.

"Democracy is in decline. Over half of the world's population now lives under some form of authoritarian rule. Wherever democracy deteriorates, so does support for transparency and accountability. Disinformation about current events thrives, as do versions of history that cover up authoritarian crimes."

I’m Professor of History and Italian Studies at New York University, Advisor to Protect Democracy, an MSNBC columnist, and the recipient of Guggenheim and other fellowships. My latest book, Strongmen: Mussolini to the Present, examines how anti-democratic leaders use propaganda, corruption, violence, and machismo to stay in power, and how resistance to their rule has unfolded over a century.

Since 2015 I have translated my academic research into columns for CNN, the Washington Post, and other media outlets and hundreds of interviews with the global press. My knowledge of authoritarianism allowed me to forecast that Donald Trump would seek to implement an illiberal model of governance and use shock events to intimidate Americans - agendas that culminated in the January 2021 assault on the Capitol. I've also written about abuses of power that occur in all political contexts, like sexual harassment.

So, a radical Leftist academic starts some website where she and other like-minded Leftists will ramble and rant on about whatever spreading the sort of disinformation they claim to be fighting... I'll pass. It's not worth $50 a year of my money to bother with.

And... The radical Leftist feminist front weighs in with a book full of drivel...

Ben-Ghiat centers her thesis that modern authoritarian leaders base their power on masculinity and from that basis derive a number of other evil traits. The world will be safe from them adopting a matriarchal model, and... Well the usual radical Leftist drivel follows...

QED

Nice try, Chief, but bullshit. Are you denying you defend Trump? Are you denying you claim he had a right to the classified material in his possession?

I don't "defend" Trump. I try to present a factual argument or rebuttal rather than accept the usual "Orange man evil!" argument that everything Trump says and does is bad. He may have had a right to have that material, or he may not have. Certainly, there are other top US politicians who have done stuff with classified and other government documents that haven't come in for the kind of scrutiny that Trump is suddenly getting. Equal treatment under the law is important too.

I never posted "Orange man evil", but thanks for the long-winded way of saying you believe Trump had a right to the classified material because, in your opinion and experience with Rickover's Navy, everybody else it doing it. LOL

Now you're gaslighting me.
Dude, you throw your weight behind Trumpism, spread hate and lies against anyone who is left of your own Alt-Right position, then claim I'm the one who is gaslighting. Fine. Others can read for themselves.

A recent example:

Go back and read what I stated earlier. I don't know if Trump did or didn't have a right to have that material at Mar a Lago. Presidents are the end of the line when it comes to whether something is classified or not. The Supreme Court has already settled that debate regardless of how much the Left wants to deny it. My position on the material is I am on the fence. I'm neither supporting nor condemning his having classified material.

On the separate topic, I think the FBI search was unwarranted and unnecessary. This could have been handled more discretely.

That has NOTHING to do with Trump and is a critique of Ben-Ghiat based on the links provided by Midcan. Maybe you should read them and decide for yourself rather than impugning me.

For example, I quoted her here:

That is nothing but an empty appeal to authority. It's I'm really smart and know a lot of stuff because I've gotten published! It's nothing but self-flatulating drivel.

You hate all lefties. I get it and believe most others do too.

You defend Trump either by attacking Lefties or claiming his persecution about the documents is unwarranted....something a CPO in Rickover's Navy should know isn't true.

Now answer my questions you fucking coward and historical ignoramus:

1) did Hitler gain dictatorial power, legally under German law in the 1930's?
Yes or no?

2) is it legal in the present Constitution for a POTUS to gain absolute, dictatorial powers?
Yes or no?

1.) No, unless you're saying that Hindenburg and Schleicher were dictators. Hitler legally won the election and turned Germany into a dictatorship.

2.) No, but an up-and-coming dictator can change the Constitution like Hitler did.
