(CNN) Leaders of the two Koreas have agreed to end the Korean War, 65 years after hostilities ceased, in a wide-ranging joint announcement struck Friday, that includes working towards the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in and his North Korean counterpart, Kim Jong Un, signed the "Panmunjom Declaration for Peace, Prosperity and Unification on the Korean Peninsula," at the demilitarized zone (DMZ) that has divided the two countries for more than six decades.

Following the signing ceremony, the two leaders clasped hands and hugged in a symbolic act of togetherness after a full day of meetings, including a 30-minute private conversation beamed live around world.

No matter what happens next, this is historic.

I keep looking for reasons to be skeptical about Kim’s intentions and I keep coming up empty. Yes, he’s always lied in the past, but he keeps taking NK in a direction it’s never gone before.

Politically, if Kim really does denuke and the Koreas become one country, Stormy, Mueller, Trump’s Twitter account...none of it will matter or prevent him from being the most successful foreign policy president since Reagan, at least.

And I don’t think Reagan could have pulled that off—not in his first term.

South Korea's foreign minister has said she believes President Donald Trump is largely responsible for bringing North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to the negotiating table.

Speaking ahead of Friday's historic summit between the leaders of North and South Korea, Kang Kyung-wha told CNN that the US President had played a significant role in bringing the two sides together.

"Clearly, credit goes to President Trump," Kang told CNN's Christiane Amanpour in Seoul. "He's been determined to come to grips with this from day one."

trump deserves the nobel peace prize if this goes through. i mean obama got it for literally nothing.

All these doom and gloom liberals afraid of nuclear war, never realized the world didn't need another soyboy, it needed an alpha shitkicker to get stuff done. Pussies handwringing accomplishes nothing. Being tough does.

the Koreas become one country, .

dont think this will happen. NK is a complete shithole, SK is a 1st world nation. No one will want the burden of a shithole NK, it would be like America adopting mexico or haiti.

IMO it'll be a very slow incremental change over generations

This is indeed historic and wonderful news. I wouldn't be so quick though to give Trump the credit.

You can’t subtract Trump from the equation and historians almost certainly won’t even try.

But yeah, to think the people of NK have a legitimate shot at improving their plight is a welcome thought.

From a giant wave of NoKo icbm missle launches and my button is bigger than yours, ... to "this" in just 6 months.

President Trump makes it look so easy. Amazing.

I implied as much in my last post.

They can’t just open the border over night. But the people of NK are worse off than the East Germans were in the 80’s and ANY sort of improvement would be huge for them.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend in a twisted way may have brought the two Koreas together, Trump's crazy talk helped these two figures come together maybe? The North is a mess and the constant sanctions have made it worse. I don't give Trump much credit in this, but oddly his bizarre approach may have helped the Koreans see the light - we hope. Just maybe Kim Jong-un isn't as nutty as he seemed?

South Korea and China are doing the bulk of the work. Jae-In’s campaign promise was to improve relations with North Korea. Xi’s reassurance to North Korea that they will defend them against regime change has been a big factor.
Trump can take the credit, I don’t care. I’m glad progress has been made. I didn’t want WWIII

East and West Germany did it.

No risks, no reward lol.

Trump took some pretty hefty political risks, so I don’t know if ‘easy’ is the right word for it. He deserves credit for it.

Do you think the SK foreign minister is a trump apologist?
time to give credit where credit is due.

Nope, he's a guy who's lived under NK's mushroom cloud-shaped shadow his entire life. Trump? Not so much. Sorry, but telling NK that his buttons are bigger than theirs hardly qualifies the Orange Tard for anything other than the Best Blowhard in 1st Grade award.

The real reason why suddenly Kim has done an about face? The destruction of NK's nuclear facility late last year, due to a collapse of the mountain under which it was built. This is a face-saving move. Doesn't matter the reason though. It's good news for SK and for the world too.

It will be interesting to see if the restrictions on NK's citizens will be lifted, so that they can travel freely to visit with whatever relatives they may have still left, in SK.

we have been here before and were played by NK, you guys are like school children...so naive.

It's really quite simple. The Chinese peninsular has united in a writ very large;

YANQUI- GO HOME. Please.

and there's only one country which can totally fuck up the detente .

It wasn’t Trump’s rhetoric so much as the credible threat that lurked behind it.

Kim has never known a credible threat until Trump came along. China, also perceived Trump to be a credible threat to NK so they finally got serious.

And it’s turned out that Kim is most probably a rational actor, after all.

Of course, now that he's our new buddy. Before he was our new buddy, he was dangerously insane, unstable, and most likely a megalomaniac bent on world destruction. Funny how that works, isn't it?
