President Trump’s approval rating hit an all-time high in a Gallup survey released on Friday, with 49 percent of respondents approving of his performance versus 47 percent disapproving.

The results continue a wide swing in polling for Trump, who garnered a 43 percent approval rating two weeks ago


“Most of the variation in Trump’s recent job approval rating is among independents,” Gallup said. “In the current poll, 47% of independents approve of the job he is doing as president, the highest Gallup has measured for the group to date. 93% of Republicans and 8% of Democrats approve of the job Trump is doing.”

I never trusted polls. That doesn't mean that they are always wrong. They were correct about Clinton.

I don't disagree about the age of the candidates. I would have liked to see mayor Pete in the mix. If not for the politicization of everything in today's climate, I think he'd make a great VP instead of choosing a token women/minority just to draw out the non white, non male vote.

I'm talking about reputable polls, not Sean's poll asking "Is Trump a great President or the Greatest President?" Gallup is a very reputable polling service.

People misuse polls and too many people don't understand them. The computer acronym GIGO applies. Even reputable polls can be confusing if a person doesn't have a modicum of knowledge on how they work.

Note that the OP links an article about the poll from National Review, not the poll itself. The poll itself presents a comprehensive picture of all Presidential approval ratings over time: https://news.gallup.com/interactives/185273/r.aspx

"IF" I bother to check someone's claim about a poll, I first have to go the the link provided by the OP. As you suggest, it's often that publication's opinion on the poll. Not unlike Barr's opinion about a variety of issues that proved to be grossly innacurate.


Usually, there is a link to the poll, and from there I check the sampling. From there, I can determine how much credence I give any poll.

But...most polls are a week behind the times, and something as simple as Comey announcing that Clinton's emails are once again being investigated, while remaining silent about trump being investigated, can toss all polling out the window.

Agreed that it's always a good idea to look at the poll itself, not someone's opinion of it.

Agreed the data in a poll soon becomes data. Polls are indicators, not predictions of the future by Seers.

Agreed that current events can alter public views be it 9/11, Hillary's violations of classified material handling or the COVID body count.
