"It's not JUST about making babies." TD #257
You have persuasively refuted a point I neither asserted nor implied.
YOU posted:
"No, my argument hasn't changed. The purpose and intent of marriage has always been about procreation" TD #251
I refuted your assertion by pointing out that marriage is 100% extraneous to procreation.
"I am not surprised the point is lost on liberals." TD #257
I'm sure you're more than qualified to speak for them.

Wrong. The status is eternal. But the stigma may have stemmed from the fact that unparented children may have in their ignorance turned to underhanded means of survival, including theft.
But since in the third millennium in Western culture that's a virtual non-issue, the stigma that resulted from it has also subsided.
Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn have at least one child out of wedlock. She seems to be a happy, capable, well raised young lady.
"The notion that this isn't the problem is the lie of liberal dogma."

"Western Europe is in decline and paying a price for it. What is passe is the notion that family is unimportant and marriage can men anything we want it to." TD
Perhaps you allude to Asian ascendancy.
I invite you to post a quotation of anyone asserting "family is unimportant" (your exact words).
"I'm still waiting for an answer; why gays need the institution of marriage."
Equal legal rights.
