If you actually serve you are. I agree.
Damn good idea!

Hello Darth,
I don't think it is a good idea. I agree it looks like a vote-grab.
But I would favor automatic voter registration associated with getting a Social Security card. That makes more sense to me. Our system of requiring citizens to register to vote adds an unnecessary layer of complexity which results in fewer people voting. This hurts our democracy, makes it weaker and more vulnerable to big money power interests.
I believe people would be more patriotic and responsible citizens if all adult citizens over age 18 are automatically registered to vote. When people vote, they take more national responsibility. Also, there should be public PR campaigns designed to shame those apathetic people who do not become politically engaged, well informed or vote. Our system of self-government, government which derives it's power from the consent of the governed, is designed to function only with the active participation of the populace.
Couple that with a mandatory Ranked Choice Voting system in every State, and we would have far more effective government of the people, by the people, and for the people.
Right now we seem to have a government of the rich, by the rich and for the rich. That is too exclusive and wrong. It is destined to fail and not be longstanding. It's shallow instant gratification for the greedy.
Damn good idea!

So you ignore the Constitution
No. I am not a Democrat.
Using a scapegoat,doesn't give you a pass,shitface
I think it's a good idea. The justification is that at 16, people are generally more mature than the boomers who are still voting.
All Nattering Nancy has to do is make a statement and you idiots jump on it like a welfare leech on food stamps.
Everyone should have to produce a pay stub showing they pay employment taxes or proof of being retired ( they already worked) to vote.
How retro.
Hmm, maybe we should also require everyone be a landowner too, eh? Oh, and bring your DNA test because if you're not 100% European you only get 3/5ths of a vote.
To my mind, allowing 16 year olds to vote is one of the most brazen attempts at vote grabbing I’ve ever seen. All politicians would need to do is show them shiny things and they’d have the 16 year old bloc locked down tight.
But how many JPP lefties think this is a good idea? And what’s the justification for it?
Winning the next election doesn’t count.

Sixteen seems young to vote... but then we trust 16-year-olds with 2,000-lb possibly lethal weapons (cars). And piloting planes. And owning firearms.
when did you follow enough politics that you got past the pure rhetoric and at least tuned into deciding on issues/persona?I don't know, noise. I wasn't very politically astute in my third year of college.
people confuse ability to drive, and drink and serve ( age of majority) with enough experience to make a decision of a weighty matter.Another ill-gotten legacy of the Vietnam War.

18 is pushing it. 16 is laughable. you might as well have illegals voting....oh wait...
oh JFC. me and 63,000,000 American are "unqualified" - take that trash outta here.Let's review: You voted for a mediocre Reality TV entertainer with no qualifications to be the leader of the Free World.
A salesman of real estate and frozen steak products who shows no capability or interest in learning about governance, statecraft, and policy.
You are in no position to claim your judgement is better than a garden variety 16 year old.
