Question for JPP lefties

Because the typical 16 year old can’t make an informed political decision and has the attention span of a squirrel lol?

Most old people suffer dementia or mental lapses, and thus, can't make an informed decision because their brains are deteriorating.

All the arguments you're making against 16 year olds voting are the same arguments that can be made against letting those over retirement age vote too.

If there was a cutoff age for voting, the GOP would never win an election again.

A nice attempt at trolling, perhaps? But it would be blatantly unconstitutional.

More importantly, I think disabled people, housewives, stay-at-home moms, and rural survivalists living off the grid should be able to vote in a representative democracy.

Not trolling at all. It is a suggestion. One that would work.

people confuse ability to drive, and drink and serve ( age of majority) with enough experience to make a decision of a weighty matter.
18 is pushing it. 16 is laughable. you might as well have illegals voting....oh wait...
.
Let's review: You voted for a mediocre Reality TV entertainer with no qualifications to be the leader of the Free World.
A salesman of real estate and frozen steak products who shows no capability or interest in learning about governance, statecraft, and policy.

You are in no position to claim your judgement is better than a garden variety 16 year old.
.
I love this post x10.
Much obliged. I really do not see how a moderately well-informed 16 year old could make a worse choice than voting for an unintelligent Reality TV entertainer to lead the Free World - like some adults on this forum did.

In principle, it really comes down to having an informed citizenry. That is more important than age or life experience. Again, there were plenty of adult, college educated Republicans on this board who thought invading Iraq was an awesome idea.

I like your insight about civics classes. If it isn't already, that should be a requirement of all primary and secondary education.

Also, citizens can be trusted to make reasonably wise choices - if they are adequately informed. We obviously need a better media, better journalistic standards, better sources of information, more transparency, and perhaps we should consider bringing the fairness doctrine back. The problem that Fox News has created, is a media model of selling propaganda camoflauged as news.

we could have had an unrepentant interventionist who never owned up to her primary role of regime change in Libya,
or meddling in Syria ( her Friends of Syria initiative) and who never would have tried detente with North Korea.

She never would have tried to grow GDP or reworked NAFTA while pursing trade reform with China.
She would have been the status quo of ignoring economic growth in favor of more "fair distribution"
which just means smaller but equal amounts of the pie for everyone.

The American people wanted something better -Trump has delivered peace and prosperity

To my mind, allowing 16 year olds to vote is one of the most brazen attempts at vote grabbing I’ve ever seen. All politicians would need to do is show them shiny things and they’d have the 16 year old bloc locked down tight.

But how many JPP lefties think this is a good idea? And what’s the justification for it?

Winning the next election doesn’t count.

16 year olds lately can't even identify WHERE states are on a map let alone have knowledge of candidates running for office IN those unidentified states.

Are you assuming they would all vote Democratic?

I’m sure Nancy is assuming a majority of them would lol.

With all the challenges facing this country why would congress waste their time on this anyway? Do they sit around and think of novel initiatives they can put up for a vote?

I think it's a good idea. The justification is that at 16, people are generally more mature than the boomers who are still voting.

WRONG; apparently you have never had children or deal with kids. The notion that today's 16 year olds are mature is laughably stupid.

I don't know what's in her mind and am not sure I agree with the idea of 16-year olds voting. I've never given it any thought. But I think it's curious that whenever the topic of increasing voters comes up, cons think it means those voters will pull the levers for Democrats.

I’d be okay with automatic voter registration so long as it’s coupled with voter ID.

Get rid of voting rolls altogether and that way no one will be tempted to scour them for dead voters.

I will NEVER be okay with automatic voter registration. It goes against everything we stand for. If someone is too lazy to even go register, then they will also be too lazy to get informed about the issues and candidates.

The founders never intended everyone to vote and thought that uninformed voters voting for dishonest politicians who promised them something for nothing the greatest threat to the Republic. They were correct and wise beyond their time.

Meh, I don’t think it would change much.

People who are too lazy to register to vote most likely won’t bother with voting if all they had to do was to show up at the polls with an ID. Since we’re political junkies it’s easy to lose sight of the fact many people are just tuned-out on the whole game.

Getting rid of voting rolls would get rid of some of mischief and voter ID would cut down voting fraud.
