Another issue that has been a problem with NA students is wearing a symbol of their nation or clan as part of their graduation garb. Alaska recently passed a law allowing indigenous students to combine traditional symbols with their official graduation stuff. Here NMU is pretty lenient. My friends who just graduated in May wore their medallions, eagle feathers, beadwork. A couple of examples:
