Tracking TS Dorian

Uh yeah. We were in the clear with Katrina too. I have now adopted an attitude of "Oh Fuck! We're all gonna' DIE!" ... and if it's anything less than that ... that's a Win!
(and talking of dying, ... have the Hurricane Parties started yet?)

Even though at noon earlier there were no exceptions showing up for Dorian to turn west, conditions
have changed to where there is at least 1 model which shows a possibility now. Just keep your eyes
on the NOAA bulletins and the POTENTIAL TRACK AREA. It covers a wide area and we'll know more by
early Sunday morning if not sooner.

(wouldn't hurt to grab some canned tuna and chicken and your water before the hoards head out to shop) ;)

I'm jaded from all the drama queen news anchors who hype this stuff to no end. I'm watching the updates to see if the cone narrows any. The grocery stores and Home Depots are making out like bandits from all this fear mongering in the press.

Or one could also say that a lot of people are just being smart and taking preparations early so they aren't running around at the last minute with their hair on fire with the shelves all empty.

Better to shop early and spend a few bucks to be on the safe side than to be caught on the short end and regret it.

But I also understand how its become fashionable amongst conservatives to kind of scoff at anything related to the weather or the climate because of their rabid hatred and resistance to the idea of climate change and weather events that might possibly be perceived as being related to it.

Whatever.

Best of luck to us all.

Why is everything related to politics with you? Having lived here all my life I'm used to this routine. More times than not I have hit the panic button -- with the result being barely getting a rain shower, or some wind and rain, worst case.

The storm is 5 days away. I'm surely hoping for the best.

Publix sold out of water by 3PM today when I was there.

Tomorrow is my prep day..checking and replacing batteries, water, canned food etc.

I'm seeing a woman now who works at the Ritz -she can get me a room cheap for a night or 2.
I'm taking her up on that as well - I guess I'll book Monday at least if they still have any rooms left
AND I can take my cat with me!!

stay safe everyone!

"hope for the best, plan for the worse."
I'm getting the basics done tomorrow. I hope you and JW and and Jack and Stretch and anyone I missed
come thru just fine

The news anchors here are almost gleeful over the prospect it could come to Jacksonville. Even the Mayor spoke today.

It's so ridiculous and commercialized.

It is the right time for mayors and governors to get it in gear though especially Gulf states and SE Atlantic states.
It's a little up in the air till Sunday morning to see which fork in the road she takes once she gets perpendicular to Titusville.

Looks more to me like maybe its politics with you and Stretch, with a couple of the favorite right-wing bogeymen getting scoffed at.

Climate & weather issues, the "fake news" media, etc.

And maybe your part of the state hasn't been hit with as many major hurricanes as here where I live has.

Back in 2004 we got raked hard by four hurricanes in one month.

Anyway, I hope like hell the high pressure system moves east or weakens so the thing can stay offshore.

Sounds like a plan. If Dorian crosses over mid way she'll go right over you probably as a Cat 2,
much like Irma's strength 2 years ago. Hopefully the hotel will keep its power.

I'll use this post to try and explain what's going on here...why the wait till late Saturday/early Sunday?..............

There's high pressure to the NE rotating clockwise above Dorian
which may prevent it from a storm's preferred course to the N
and would force her to the W across mid FL.

We've just got to wait and see if that steering system
hopefully weakens...or not. If it weakens and Dorian stays just
strong enough, she'll keep plowing N according to the course
I posted earlier according to the conditions at that time.

So, when we watch the weather reports over the next few days,
cross your fingers that the high pressure system to the N weakens! :whoa:

They're obsessed. They can't switch gears and get out of politics gear. A discussion about
pbj sandwiches could be politicized by the left.

Thanks friend! Please keep checking in here through all this so we know you & kitty are doing fine as well.

that high has been sitting there for a long time? we've had a lot of cloudless days (except the pop up storms)

Actually no. It's in the Midwest and making its way over to the east and will land offshore
of the Mid Atlantic by Sat/Sun

They are really hyping this up big time.... Publix and Home Depot are raking it in!

I went to Publix to get some stuff for dinner tonight and it was a mad house.

I love watching the kooks go cray cray over hurricanes.

It’s going to change directions 6 times before Monday.
