Religion Is A Sickness

You're right, all of these non-denominational fundies are/were incredibly stupid and ignorant. Unfortunately, that's who my parents chose to expose me to early on, and part of me thanks them for that, as it backfired, and I am now inoculated against all religious bullshit.

I think you SEVERELY underestimate the # of Christians in the U.S. who subscribe to the fundy set of values, including OT, fire-and-brimstone, hate-filled christianity. Have you ever wondered why it took more than 40 years after Stonewall for gays to have the right to marry? Have you ever wondered why they're STILL not afforded federally-protected rights to be free from jobs/housing discrimination?'

It's because the fundies have a stranglehold on christianity in the U.S. They represent a plurality. Not Catholics, not protestants. Evangelicals.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evang...Center,mainline Protestants were 14.7 percent.

No, I agree that the fundamentalist rightwing of Protestant Christianity has a large an unwarranted influence in American Christianity, and specifically in the Republican Party.

I have always considered fundamentalist Christians a threat to democracy, to reason, and to mainstream theologically-sound Christianity itself.

You mean those of us who believe the Bible!

No, you didn't read it, and no, you didn't understand it. I don't dispute that Christianity influenced our laws, I dispute that Christianity was in any way the first to come upon the idea of "honoring thy mother and father."

Hell, hunter-gatherer societies were hot onto this concept long before us. And they did it without destroying the environment with their "western civilizaiton values" (read: Grab as much land and convert/kill as many people as possible).
What you're missing is that none of these "christian laws" were new. Western civilization didn't make them up, and Christianity is in no way responsible for western civilization's success. If anything it held us back.

More evidence you aren't a lawyer. Scroll up, son. I already wrote about Western Civilization.

While I believe you want to be a lawyer and that you are probably taking law classes, the fact you read, write and think at the college Freshman level indicates you are not a lawyer.

And now you know why we get "mad" at Christians.

I see, you don't understand the genesis of this discussion, wherein I replied to someone who claimed the Ten Commandments are the foundation for American law.

Go back up, read again, and then get back to me. We'll sort this out for you, buddy.

I agree with the strike out version I edited above.
Anger is an emotion I keep in check.

There are over two billion Christians in the world, but your anger is directed largely at 50 million of them -- Rightwing American evangelical protestants.

I think these fundys are dangerous to the extent they have an insidious influence on public policy

It is totally reasonable that the same devolved mutants who became trumoanzees would be afflicted with religious superstitions.
These are the people who believe in Q'Anon conspiracies, after all.
Give them enough meth and moonshine and you can get them to believe in anything.

Who really thinks that "unity" with these troglodytes is possible or even desirable?
And we've got 74,000,000 million of them slithering around, mostly with AR15s and probably Covid, and not yet driven back under their rocks.

You do not strike me as somebody who has actually taken the study of Christian theology and biblical scholarship seriously.

You would have never groveled at the feet of your demigod Donald Trumpf if you had.

There are some really, really confused lefties and Democrats on this thread. I am talking clueless and uneducated.

I saw where you twisted a quote to fit your paradigm. What I quoted of you was both the actual post and your response. My reply was to correct your error. Your reaction was to go into another emotional breakdown.

Are you flunking law? Is that why you are such a hot mess? If so, my advice is to take a break for a quarter/semester. Even if it's just to throttle down to part-time and work part-time. The work doesn't have to be for money, just something for perspective. Nothing like working minimum wage to motivate a weak college student into getting the fuck up and out.

Right, should I bow at the altar of the federal government like you! Should I bow at the altar of abortionists, the sexually immoral, those who covet, like yourself?

If and when you reach the pearly gates, Saint Peter is not going to accept excuses involving you pointing fingers at Cypress of jpp.com.

You are responsible for your own actions. Lying on behalf of Trump, and worshipping and groveling at the feet of a morally degenerate, atheist president - a spawn of Belzeebub, if there ever was one - is going to require some fancy explanations.

My fingers are firmly pointed at the satanic democrat party!

No. Debatable. Who do you think Americans should bow down to?
