Senate prepares for showdown over filibuster

There are a range of ideas floating around. One that seems to be gathering support is the so-called talking filibuster. It would require senators who want to filibuster a bill to actually speak on the floor for the entire time they want to hold up the legislation. Other ideas include exempting voting rights legislation from the filibuster or lowering the 60-vote threshold to move forward.

“Everything is on the table,” Chuck Schumer, the Senate majority leader, said on Wednesday.

let me guess.....all Republicans and three Demmycrats will vote against it......

You do not get to posture as the great defender of Senate tradition.

You rammed a Supreme Court nominee through the Senate two weeks before your candidate was decisively defeated in a presidential election.
sure....we all agree that Trump lost in 2016......that's why President Clinton was able to put three lib'rul appointees on the SC.......

And what happens if in 2022 in the mid-terms the Democrats are turned out of Congress wholesale and the Republicans take charge--like the last three times a Democrat was in the White House?

Then all-of-a-sudden your abolition of the filibuster becomes a major awshit as the Republicans use it to bash and overturn all the crap the Democrats just passed. I'd expect to hear massive caterwauling and gnashing of teeth from the Democrats about how unfair this situation is even as they were the ones that created it.

Boom/bingo.

I say rip the filibuster into a million pieces, scatter them to the wind and let it never return.......then, take back control of the Senate and the House......

mid term elections.......voiding the filibuster is not going to cancel them....

But how?

You don't win a chamber of Congress just by virtue of elections...you have to work for it.

You're going to be in for a big disappointment in 2022 when the Democrats expand both of their majorities because you can't control yourself.

Right, but McConnell said that if the JLVRA passes, the GOP will never win another election.

So...

So you don't plan to actually run campaigns any more.....why would you need to, right?......don't forget......you people only win elections when you have someone to hate.....

Oh we'll still run campaigns....you just won't be competitive in them.

That's because you have absolutely zero policy successes to run on.

The Democrats lost seats in the House in 2020, 15 if I recall correctly. That's a terrible record for an election where they won the Presidency. In the Senate they barely managed to gain parity and that could easily flip in 2022. History shows that Biden and the Democrats doing what they're doing (lax on illegal immigration / border control, raising taxes, pushing out lots of new regulations, floundering in foreign policy, and the economy either flat or getting worse--gas prices among that, etc.) has historically been a pretty sure bet they get creamed in the mid-terms. They did under Carter, Clinton, and Obama. I doubt Joke Biden will do better.
