This is the first large scale rollout of mRNA vaccines, which were proven safe and effective when Obama invested hundreds of millions into the final stages of development.

We have no idea about possible long term side effects to mRNA vaccines because they’ve never been used on a broad enough scale to make a determination one way or another.

Like the Chinese and US competing to find life in the Solar System, the competition to come up with the first COVID vaccine carries a lot of national prestige.
The US remains #1 with both safety and effectiveness. Notice that Russia developed their own vaccine too but Putin didn't use it. He finally got a vaccination but I suspect it was an American product.
It's the safest way to achieve herd immunity. Giving everyone the same disease, burying the dead and moving on with the survivors is another way to do it. In the US, that'd be about 3M+ dead. Plus all the long haulers.
Not a medical-expert, but my understanding is that the jury is still out on whether or not a person who has had COVID is immune from it or isn't a carrier.
"They" is fucking Trump, not the US Navy. Certainly not by the men and women of our armed forces who are defending our nation. As usual, Trump politicized a situation by putting our nation's military at risk for Trump's personal benefit.

James Stavridis, former NATO commander. More important, when Crozier was forced to leave the ship, the sailors gave him a standing ovation and many parents of the sailors publicly thanked him.
After Modly himself was fired for flying to Guam and giving a profanity-laced speech onboard the Roosevelt, Gilday announced that he, himself, would conduct an investigation of the incident. After a month-long investigation, he recommended that Crozier be given back command of the ship, a decision he said will probably define his term as chief of naval operations.
This did not go over too well with his civilian superiors. Esper declined to endorse his recommendation, and the new acting secretary of the Navy ordered another investigation. Not only did Gilday not complain, but he actually endorsed conducting a new investigation despite the fact that his own investigation took several weeks longer than that of Modly when he fired Crozier.
The officers who should be held responsible for the situation on the Roosevelt are not Crozier or the wing commander and medical personnel on the carrier, but those in the chain of command, specifically the commander of the Indo-Pacific Command, Adm. Philip Davidson. He should be held accountable not only for not supporting Crozier, but for ordering him to go to the port of Danang, Vietnam, for four days, from March 5 through March 9, even though COVID-19 had already been detected in the country and Vietnam shares a border with China, where the virus originated. In addition, Esper bears some responsibility for directing, on Feb. 26, 2020, combatants to tell him before they made decisions about protecting the troops from COVID-19 because he did not want them to contradict Trump, who that day announced that the number of cases in the U.S., which at the time numbered 15, was going to be down to close to zero.
One sailor on the Roosevelt died but many more would have if Crozier had not put his career on the line by speaking up. The same cannot be said of those military and civilian leaders above him who did not step up and continue to throw Crozier under the bus rather than taking responsibility for their own actions.

Washington (CNN) Nearly 40% of US Marines are declining Covid-19 vaccinations, according to data provided to CNN on Friday by the service, the first branch to disclose service-wide numbers on acceptance and declination.
As of Thursday, approximately 75,500 Marines have received vaccines, including fully vaccinated and partially vaccinated service men and women. About 48,000 Marines have chosen not to receive vaccines, for a declination rate of 38.9%.
CNN has reached out to the other services for acceptance and declination rates.
The corresponding acceptance rate for vaccinations among Marines -- 61.1% -- is not far off the military estimate of two-thirds, or about 66%.
Another 102,000 Marines have not yet been offered the vaccines. The total number of Marines includes active-duty, reserves and Individual Mobilization Augmentee Marines.
The declination rate at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, one of the prominent Marine Corps bases, was far higher, at 57%, according to another set of data provided to CNN. Of 26,400 Marines who have been offered vaccinations, 15,100 have chosen not to receive them, a number that includes both II Marine Expeditionary Force and Marine Corps Installation East -- Camp Lejeune. Another 11,500 active-duty Marines are scheduled to be offered the vaccines.

It's a matter of trust, not fear. A wave of anti-governmentalism has been spreading since the days of Waco, Ruby Ridge and Bill Clinton. Democrats have moved further left toward an authoritarian extreme and Republicans have moved further right, oddly, also to an authoritarian extreme but one which involves tearing down the present US government/shredding the Constitution.
Consider the below statistic when evaluating the political views of our nation's men and women in uniform. Note the differences between active duty and veterans. Officer and Enlisted. There are 8 enlisted military personnel for every 2 officers. Officers require a college education. To advance, most senior Non-Commissioned Officers also have college degrees and often go on to retiring from the military.**

**Retirement from the military takes 20 years. Although there have been special circumstances when downsizing the military, if a person serves 19 years, 11 months and 29 days, they leave with nothing but a small severance check. No medical except VA, no pension. Most vets only served their initial tour; about 4 years for both officers and enlisted except for pilots where it's 7 years due to the high cost of training.
