I know you have a tenuous grasp of reality as it is, but...

I could care less about the rich. But I do prefer that government does what works, not what's fashionable on the Left, which never works. Taxing the Rich will not solve NYC's or NY state's money problems. History clearly shows that.

I'll repeat, at its core, proposals like this (in the OP) are an attempt for politicians to look like they are addressing affordability issues without building new housing.

When you have housing standing empty most of the year

That is not good for the housing issue

So those people need to kick in more to help the city function

They don’t like it?

They can buy a house in Jersey

Then a year round resident will have a chance to buy it


Don’t want to live there?

It will cost you more to maintain

When you don’t live in a city you don’t end up paying all the taxes the residents pay

All the sales tax and such

You are not adding to the economy of the city

Just little dribs and drabs here and there

You love this city so much you buy a house here?

Then pay up

There are two people in my building that live bi-coastal (SF/NYC) and own residences in both. These guys run tech firms so they hire a number of people in each city as well as contribute a fair amount to the tax coffers. That they aren't in each City 365 days a year doesn't change that.

The idea that they are viewed negatively for doing so says more about us than them.

You're right Desh, people that create jobs and pay significant business taxes in a city aren't financially supporting democracy. My bad for thinking otherwise.

Every Mayor in NYC is required to balance the budget. The federal government can run a deficit, NYC can't.

As with all cities and budgets, the devil is in the details. Was it done with smoke and mirrors such as pushing off pension payments, tapping into rainy day funds etc. or done on a more sustainable basis. That's what people who focus on the budget look at.

On the internet I suppose we focus on skin color.
