Seattle Also Elects A Socialist Mayor

Lol, there's no such thing as a "Democratic socialist", it's a contradiction in terms.

It's a rebranding of "National Socialist."

But Communist societies can be very democratic. In St. Petersburg in 1922-23, Lenin established on of the most democratic societies in history. The word "Soviet" in Russian means a council, committee, or congress. Neighborhood soviets were empowered to decide nearly everything. Only proletarians were allowed to vote. The middle class, or Bourgeoisie were prohibited from voting. These soviets decided everything, from housing arrangements to what food would be allotted, to work assignments. Doctors and business owners were routinely assigned to digging ditches while the soviets found they had no need for food or sleeping indoors in the arctic city. Naturally corruption was rampant as people scrambled to survive.

Democracy may be a greater horror than even Communism.

Before we proceed you are aware that the US has been part socialist since the 19th Century, correct?

Gather 'round kiddies, a Communist is going to lie to you.

Now am I democratic socialist, I definitely lean left, and I do believe that it is the Government’s responsibility to acknowledge the needs of the unfortunate and certainly don’t think the “thousand points of light” or Invisible Hand is going to address the problem.

That's because you are extremely ignorant and poorly educated. You've never studied Adam Smith and mindlessly bleat what you hear on MSNBC or read on Young Turds.

Say Comrade fake lawyer - why did you Communists ship 20 million illegals into the American heartland as Obama's Biden Junta imported them? How hany illegals did you invite to stay at your place?

Once again we see that there is NO hypocrisy like demopocrisy.
Again, you demonstrate your absolute and total absurdity.

So fascinating to me. On a national level when people are unhappy, they usually vote for the other party. But in these big urban areas Republicans aren't an option, so instead the shift goes further to the left.

As progressive as San Francisco is, we haven't elected a progressive Mayor in decades. In our election last year we elected, by SF standards, a real moderate and he's done a lot to turn the City around.

I try to think what differentiates cities like Seattle and NYC who will elect a socialist, and SF who won't.

What to know about Seattle Mayor-elect Katie Wilson

Do you understand the meaning of the word Socialist ?????????

Slavery, communism, fascism, and capitalism all exist in the United States. This is true of any nation in the world, even brutal dictatorships.
Slavery, communism, and fascism are all forms of socialism. ALL are based on theft of wealth.

Capitalism is the only system that CREATES wealth. Indeed, socialism cannot exist without capitalism nearby to steal wealth from. Once socialism runs out of places to steal from, it collapses.

An oligarchy is not democracy, anchovies.

Government is your 'invisible hand'. You advocate socialism. You advocate communism. You advocate theft of wealth.

Excellent point. Even in socialist and communist countries, ONLY capitalist markets create new wealth.

We now got slavery in the US? Tell us where

Millions of child sex slaves imported by the Biden Junta, to start with.

Your party ran the largest slave importation racket under Biden's Puppetcy in history - dwarfing the Atlantic Slave Trade.

“government is your invisible hand,” love to hear an explanation on that one, and we all saw in the last half of the 19th Century how well capitalism creates wealth and the consequences

Yes, Capitalism created the vast middle class and the comforts of industrialization. Turning the USA from a agricultural nation to having the most wealth diversity in human history.

We're 80 posts into the thread and you chime in, clearly quite passionately based on the number of question marks, not about the topic but rather definitions and use of socialist as short hand for DSA?

To each his own I suppose.

It wasn't a democracy, but a democracy usually leads to this kind of thing.
It was an oligarchy, and eventually led to a dictatorship.

A socialist is one that supports an economy of 'equality' by forcing people to give up their wealth for redistribution to the 'disadvantaged' by their 'betters'.

A socialist is a thief.

Socialism comes in three major forms:

Fasicsm: or government manipulation of markets.
In this form, government dictates rules by which they decide how to run a business that is still owned privately. The owner(s) has less and less say in how to run the business. Government begins to dictate what they are allowed to sell, who they must buy from, the price of their product, the hours they are allowed to conduct business, who they must hire, who they must fire, etc. The owner, who took the risk of starting and building the business has less and less say on how to run it.

Fascism is but a stepping stone on the way to...

Communism: or government ownership of markets.
In this form, government now takes ownership of the business. The owner has now been eliminated. The business is stolen outright.

Eventually, you reach...

Slavery: or theft of labor itself.
In this form, the owner is now nothing more than a slave. Along with others they are put to work in the businesses the government owns. The owner, along with others, has lost his freedom completely.

The reason socialism never works is because government doesn't understand the business or the market they are taking over. They have no incentive to learn it either, since they do not need to make a profit. They just raise taxes to pay for the ill-gotten venture. This is part of the conversion to slavery. Government run businesses produce products that aren't wanted at the time, and fails to produce products that are wanted at the time. In the end, they don't care. They don't have to because of taxes.

Socialism is theft.

Only capitalism creates wealth. Socialism indeed REQUIRES capitalism to have something to steal from. Once socialism runs out of places to steal from, it collapses.

And finally...
Capitalism: the only economic system that is NOT socialism.
This type of economy is based on one simple concept: The voluntary creation of products and services that are voluntarily sold at the agreed upon price (price discovery). Under capitalism, the seller of course wants the highest price possible. The buyer wants the lowest price possible. Somewhere in the middle they come to an agreement. Then, and only then, does the transaction take place. Thus:

* Capitalism is self correcting. If prices are too high, people stop buying. If prices are too low, profit suffers. Profit is the lifeblood of any business.
* Capitalism is efficient. Successful businesses are successful because they provide products and services that people actually want. If they don't, they won't be in business long!
* Capitalism is the ultimate equalizer. Literally anyone can play the game of capitalism. Capitalism itself is service to your fellow man. All it takes is the initiative to play the game, poor, rich, or in between. It is the best way for the poor to enrich themselves.
* Capitalism requires no overlord. No government is required for capitalism to work. No one needs to manage it, since it is self correcting. As markets change and human desires change, businesses must change with it, or die.

It is capitalism that literally built whole cities out of the wilderness. Government came afterwards, at first to handle petty thievery and later to provide a community voice for defense and community improvements such as better roads or water supplies and/or a sewage and drainage system. Government was never meant to own or manage any market.

It is capitalism that made the personal vehicle a practical reality.
It is capitalism that created the personal computer market, the web, AI, and the server farms that provide these services.
It is capitalism that is addressing in very practical ways the power needs and cooling needs of these server farms.
It is capitalism that created the lithium ion battery technology in the 80's, and the EVs. Forcing people to buy EVs is NOT capitalism. That is fascism.
It is capitalism that created the combine harvester, the tractors and trucks, the fertilizer and other chemicals used in farming and ranching. It made food cheaper and more available than ever before.
It is capitalism that improved the production and reduced the price of quality steel until it's seen and used everywhere.
It is capitalism that created the entire petroleum industry, including the production of gasoline, diesel fuel, bunker fuel, tars, and useful solvents like MEK, acetone, and butane. Capitalism also produces turpentine, linseed oil, many glues and adhesives and sealants, etc.

Socialism created nothing. It only steals from others.

Communism generally refers to Marx. Mussolini was attempting to perfect Socialism to overcome the obvious flaws of Marxism. Primarily the evolutionary imperative of self-interest. It is fascism and socialism, because fascism is a type of socialism.
Marx referred to the structure of fascism and the structure of communism both.

Marx considered fascism to be but a stepping stone on the way to communism. I agree with Marx on this point. It is exactly that.

Mussolini coined the word 'fascism', but the structure of this form of socialism is very old. The word 'fascism' stems from 'fascia', meaning 'to bundle' (as with sticks). A fascia on a house bundles and hides the rafter ends, presenting one cohesive 'stick' instead of the ends of many 'sticks'. It is that piece of lumber that attaches to the ends of rafters and hides them, also helping to protect sensitive end grain from weather. Gutter systems are usually installed on the fascia.

In Marx's view, the idea was to 'bundle' markets together under one entity (the government). He began by manipulation of markets. A few he brought to communism. Hitler had advanced his version further, bringing many markets under communism. By the time Italy was occupied by the Germans, Italy move faster into communism. By the battle of Anzio, Italy was an economic mess. This is why Italians welcomed the Allies with open arms and celebration. They lived through the hell of socialism, and the Allies set them free again.

In Russia, the royal family was systematically being put to death. Only a few escape the horror. Lenin was converting Russia into the USSR, mercilessly advancing the economy through fascism and into communism. Lenin killed some 61 million people. Hitler didn't kill nearly as many, but his genocide program against the Jews was itself horrific.

All forms of socialism are based on theft of wealth. It can only be implemented by force, since people don't want their wealth stolen. This means dictatorships and oligarchies (dictatorship by committee).
