Did any JPP leftist complain when Obama's 34 million project was finished?

Algae in the reflecting pool

The continued presence of green algae in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool remained a topic of conversation among visitors and tourists to the National Mall this weekend in Washington D.C. The algae appeared less than a month after the reopening of the pool following a $34 million renovation. Park officials told WJLA recently that the algae is on its way out following adjustments to the pool's ozone levels.

Scenes photographed Sept. 29, 2012.

Now, since no JPP leftist appears to have complained when the Lincoln Reflecting Pool developed an algae problem after Obama's $34 million restoration, why is the current algae bloom supposed to be different?

Here’s what I could find from publicly accessible threads on JustPlainPolitics.com (primarily recent discussions from May 2026 onward referencing the 2012 Obama renovation and algae issues).

Older (2012–2013) direct complaint threads are not prominently indexed in web searches, likely due to forum archiving limitations. The site’s complaints about the 2012 project mostly appear as retrospective criticisms in current threads about the Trump renovation.

Key Users and Posts Referencing/Complaining About the 2012 Obama Project + Algae:

From the main thread “Marxists use 47th Amendment to stop President Trump from renovating Reflecting Pool” (started May 12, 2026):

  • Teflon Don (thread starter): Multiple posts on/around May 12, 2026.Examples: “Of course in 2012, Obama did a major renovation and fucked it all up by using tidal water which turns green from algae.” (Repeated in quotes/replies.)
  • T. A. Gardner, May 2026 (page 2 activity); criticism of Obama’s renovation: Noted leaks, algae from tidal/"green" water choices, and costs (~$34M then, over $50M adjusted).

  • The Obama administration's project (part of stimulus funding) involved a major two-year reconstruction of the aging Reflecting Pool. It addressed leaks, sinking, stagnant water, and added circulation/filtration using water from the nearby Tidal Basin (instead of city drinking water) to make it more "green"/sustainable.
  • The pool reopened in late August 2012. Algae problems returned relatively soon afterward (a known recurring issue for the pool due to its size, location, and water source), as did some leaks. This has been cited in recent coverage as evidence that the expensive fix wasn't fully successful long-term.

Algae in the pool has been a periodic issue for decades, not unique to 2026.

It would be nice to still have journalists......we would know the history of the algae problem.....for instance was it there before the Obama era changes?

The guy is right and wrong all at once. What needs to happen to fix this is circulation of the water at a reasonable and steady rate along with aeration. Maybe add a few autonomous cleaning robots that collect all the muck that gets on the bottom.
That would destroy reflection, but I dont see why it could not be done at night. Also you could have a system where water is at night passed through a UV or maybe ozone system. Given that the system put in during the Obama era is already badly damaged that would almost certainly be expensive.

You can't have your friends and eat them all too...
