Lake Ontario is not named after the province

Ontario is a Native American word for "great lake."
America lake was named after America, which the lake entirely resides within. I happen to be native American.
The province was named after the lake.
Canada is in the process of losing it's provinces.
trump does not seem to understand this.

trump wants to rename the lake after an Italian navigator. LOL!!!
The entire continent is named after that navigator, Wally.

Illiteracy: Capitalization of normal noun. Failure to capitalize proper nouns.

This certainly is not the workings of a rational man

Mantra 1d. Lame.

Trump’s ‘Lake America’ move revives one of his biggest political flops

What political flop?
It increasingly feels as though President Donald Trump is trying to do unpopular things ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
You don't get to speak for everyone. Omniscience fallacy.
But he might have outdone himself with his latest move.
Renaming a lake? Get used to it, Stooge.

Canada and Europe have both mooched off of us for WAY too long with regard to trade practices.
That's such a crock of shit. Remember IT WAS TRUMP WHO SET THE TERMS FOR TRADE WITH CANADA IN HIS FIRST PRESIDENCY. So whatever "deal" trump comes up with now - won't be worth the toilet paper it's written on.

You really don't see how this is ruining our economy?

At least in 1917 they used the proper method, not just a whim of a President who does not have that power. Unilaterally renaming things was not a power granted to the President by the Constitution.
Yes it is, Pretender.
"1917 — first official federal naming. President Woodrow Wilson signed legislation creating Mount McKinley National Park, which formalized "Mount McKinley" as the name at the federal level. This went through Congress as ordinary legislation — Congress had the authority to establish a national park and, in doing so, fixed the name in federal law and on federal maps.
The mountain is not the park, Pretender.
The U.S. Board on Geographic Names (BGN). For most naming disputes short of a full park-creation act, the actual mechanism is administrative rather than legislative: the BGN, established in 1890, is the body responsible for standardizing geographic names across federal government use. This is the body Alaska petitioned repeatedly starting in 1975, and it's also the body whose authority the Interior Secretary can direct or override — which is exactly the mechanism used in both 2015 (Jewell) and 2025 (Burgum) to actually execute the switch back and forth between Denali and McKinley."
There is no Mt Denali. Denali is a mountain range, not a mountain, Pretender.
Trump is the President, the administrator, Pretender. He has all the authority he needs to name anything he wants.

The whole idea of renaming things is stupid and wasteful. It is a distraction. It is nearly meaningless except for the waste of money and energy. Trump is good at creating a fog.
I named my own property.
I named my own business too.
I named my children.
Daughters are renamed when they wed.
US Maps and charts are reprinted on a regular basis anyway, Sybil. It doesn't cost anything.

Trump does not set Canadian tariffs, Stooge.
He sets US tariffs.

This thread is about renaming a lake. Try to stay on topic.

43 U.S.C. §§ 364–364f (the 1947 law that created the Board on Geographic Names and gave the Secretary of the Interior conjoint authority with the Board). Jewell used a Secretarial Order because the Board had sat on Alaska’s 1975 petition for decades.

The Great Satan Trump’s 27 August 2026 executive order directs the current Secretary, “in coordination with the Board on Geographic Names and consistent with 43 U.S.C. 364 through 364f,” to update the Geographic Names Information System within 30 days.

That is the same federal-usage database and the same statutory hook. An EO telling a cabinet secretary to exercise an authority Congress already gave that secretary is ordinary executive practice; it is how the Gulf of America change was done in 2025 as well.

Now, cite your enabling authority, Brad.

:rofl2:
Yes, the board on Geographic Names can do it, have they?

Apparently, you just came out of the womb and lack any historical teachings. Things are renamed all of the time dumbass. :palm:

Translation: "BUT TRUMP!!!" :rofl2:

Yes, the board on Geographic Names can do it, have they?

Brad’s question is the last refuge of a man who just lost the statute and is now hiding behind the clock.

Brad: “Yes, the Board can do it, have they?”

The Executive Order signed yesterday does not pretend the Board is a separate sovereign, Brad.

It directs the Secretary of the Interior, in coordination with the Board and consistent with 43 U.S.C. §§ 364–364f, to update the Geographic Names Information System within 30 days.

That is the same statutory hook Sally Jewell used in 2015 when she issued a Secretarial Order because the Board had sat on Alaska’s petition for forty years, Brad.

Obama did not wait for the Board to hold a solemn séance and “decide.”

The Secretary exercised the authority Congress already gave her, Brad.

The Great Satan Trump’s order tells the current Secretary to do the same thing on a 30-day clock.

So the answer to “have they?” is: they have been instructed, the clock is running, and the database will be updated.

That is how federal geographic naming actually works, Brad.

It is how Denali happened, Brad.

It is how Gulf of America happened, Brad.

It is how this will happen, Brad.

If your position is that a name change is illegitimate until the Board has physically clicked “save” on a Tuesday, then Jewell’s 2015 order was equally illegitimate for the first few weeks as well.

You did not make that argument then, Brad. You are making it now because the authority belongs to the "wrong" man, Brad.

Brad, cite the provision that says an Executive Order directing a Cabinet secretary to use an authority Congress already conferred on that secretary is void until the Board has held a meeting.

I’ll wait.

In 2015, Interior Secretary Sally Jewell, with Obama’s explicit endorsement, used the same federal naming authority to strip the official name Mount McKinley (in federal use since 1917) and restore the Koyukon Athabascan name Denali. The White House billed it as honoring Alaska Native heritage and reversing “cultural imperialism.” Same Interior Department mechanism. Same Board on Geographic Names. Same “federal usage only” limitation. Different president, therefore different.

I don't recall seeing any of your posts questioning that, Brad. I suspect that's because there weren't any.
