IF you have the compute power. You need a pretty solid GPU cluster to pull it off.
Nope. It can be done with any reasonably modern CPU, even an ARM chip.
In our use here on JPP - that's true.
It is true for all online 'AI'. It's just the garbage on the internet put into a conversational form.
But in wider use "machine learning" (a horrible misnomer) expands decision tree logic at an astounding rate.
'AI' programs such as ChatGPT, Grok, or GoogleAI, are not learning anything. Their learning loop is disconnected, other than lexical analysis.
They are just glorified versions of the old
Dr Psycho game.
I was a Microsoft MVP for Transact SQL. But Claud is better at coding than I am at this point. Claud can't conceptualize, can't apply software solutions to real world problems. But once defined, can write the code.
Claud is no different than any of the others. Yes, they can write code (there are plenty of examples on the internet of how to write code that provides sufficient context, but it doesn't have any learning ability for the released version.
Again, it is based on current prevalent web presence. As the web catches up to the reality that AGW has effectively been debunked, AI will reflect that reality.
'AI' first assumes AGW exists. I can easily correct it, and it even admits it's a religion, but it doesn't learn from the conversation. The next time it is used, it goes right back to assuming AGW exists.
It's just the junk on the internet, prettyprinted.
China develops virtually nothing.
They did develop black powder and paper. Of course, the development for black powder was looking for an 'elixer of life' at the time. The powder he came up with used honey for the fuel. Wound up burning his house down. He later wrote (translated) 'never make this stuff again'.
Chinese fireworks are pretty decent, but there are some cheap things they do with them that professional pyrotechs here in the U.S. should be aware of, particularly with chorate based stars and cheap quickmatch (using a ribbon instead of string), making it hard to e-match it. Still passes fire once you get it set up properly though.
I think Malta does better with fireworks, but they don't mass manufacture them.
In my opinion, the best fireworks are made right here in the good 'ole US of A.
All of them are based on that same black powder that was originally created in China.
China is good at cheap mechanical, and LEDs. Little else.
Most CPUs and GPUs used in the United States come from either Taiwan or Mexico, not from China.
Most EVs driving around are made in the United States (Tesla, Rivian), using US made components and even the batteries.
Most other batteries are made in Japan, including most lithium-ion batteries.
Most phones are Korean (Apple has moved its manufacturing to Korea also).
Resistors, capacitors, inductors, timing crystals, discrete transistors, and much instrumentation comes from Japan.
To say that black powder or paper is 'nothing' is simply ignoring history and the importance of both of these inventions.
It is capitalism in China that produces cheap mechanicals and linear devices, such as power supplies, PC boards, computer cases, etc. They developed these processes. The US is currently trying to copy THEM to rebuild it's electronics industry.
The US was quite the stick in the mud with electronics. Other nations like Japan quickly took the lead, developing surface mount technology while we were still using tubes.
The US did the same thing with it's automotive industry. We started marketing shit cars, while Japan was exporting better built and more reliable cars to the US. It wasn't long before the Japanese car became most commonplace. Toyota is now the biggest car manufacturer in the world.
The US is good with computer software, growing food, creating medicines, medical equiment, and medical procedures, and is generally much better at sanitation. We also produce more oil than anywhere in the world (13.5 billion barrels/DAY). Russia comes in 2nd place at 9.87 bb/day.
Each nation brings it's own assets to the world's wealth. China is no exception.
Yeah, China tries to steal a lot, but what they steal they don't really understand, and it's built like shit.
They steal and copy from America. From their faux F-35 to their Aircraft Carrier knock offs, to the M5 chips from Apple.
But they can't touch Nvidia, so they don't have the hardware compute power to compete. Nvidia famously will not manufacture in China, and is more thorough than the CIA with background checks, utterly thwarting Chinese attempts to steal their technology.
Yep, that pretty much describes it.
?
AI is software. It will never be more than software. It's useful, but it will never take over the world, much less endanger humanity. The "good or bad" of AI is purely based on who is using it.
Software does not, will not, and can not have intent.
