Frankly NVidia can go jump in the ocean. I've never met a more arrogant bunch of SOBs, except at Oracle. They are far worse than Microsoft. Also, NVidia's custom interface is a pain in the butt to use. I much prefer working with AMD or Intel GPUs. They interface very nicely with Vulkan and Mesa libraries. But they can't touch Nvidia, so they don't have the hardware compute power to compete. Nvidia famously will not manufacture in China, and is more thorough than the CIA with background checks, utterly thwarting Chinese attempts to steal their technology.
'AI' programs essentially just take the garbage on the internet and prettyprint it. This is why using it as a Holy Oracle, proof, or Life Guide is a bad idea.
It is not even AI. It is a marketing term only. There is no learning or feedback loop by the program from any conversation with an 'AI' program.AI is software. It will never be more than software.
It is software with a large database. The two together make up the 'AI' program like ChatGPT, Grok, Claud, or GoogleAI.
That can be claimed in different ways. It's useful, but it will never take over the world,
It has already 'taken over the world' in that it is used by many people in many different nations.
It will never command. It has no ability to command. Like any program, it only does what people tell it to do. Like any program, it is 'dumb'. It has NO intelligence whatsoever. It is not sentient. Therefore it cannot take over the world to rule it or to seize control from humans. That's just fake Hollywood stuff. It makes a good action or suspense movie. Universal Studios invariably had the Explodetron 9000, that would blow up the instant someone asked it to execute a 'why immediate' instruction. It usually took the building with it. Corny.
Oh, and the 'hacking' of a computer invariably showed a 40 character wide display of a hex dump and bad sync with arcing sounds. Corny.
Exactly right. 'AI' programs are a tool, nothing else. A tool may be used to benefit or harm. A hammer can be used to pound a nail or a someone's head. The hammer itself is the tool, the human wielding it is the key.much less endanger humanity. The "good or bad" of AI is purely based on who is using it.
True. Software only does what someone tells it to do. Processors are just general purpose sequencing machines, not much different than an old washing machine timer. Just faster at it.Software does not, will not, and can not have intent.
Couple that with a pocket calculator and a bit of memory and you have a general purpose computer.
The only difference between a CPU and a GPU is the width of the data buss, and the large number of exceptionally 'dumb' processors on a GPU. They are great at handling tensors, but little else. Useful for graphics (typical use), number factoring (used for things like Coin mining), codecs, or certain types of statistical analysis without performing a summary.
A CPU is much more 'intelligent' due to its much larger instruction set and general purpose register model, but they are also slower because the instruction decoder is more complex.
CPUs come in two flavors: microcoded, and base coded. Intel and AMD processors used in personal computers are microcoded, requiring extremely high clock rates to compensate for the interpreter. Base coded processors like the ARM design are RISC based machines, not microcoded, and can get away with very slow clock speeds, since there is no interpreter. In other words, it's just the CISC vs RISC school of thought that has been around since the 60's. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.
