So Stoney, who uses a Maga hat wearing Charlton Heston meme whenever he can't debate further, is whining about a younger generation pointing the fingers at his generation for the current world screw ups. Let me clue him in on why that is;

Look at the age range of those who control the 3 branches of our government, then check to see if that trend shows up in state & local. For the most part, power is passed on after someone becomes too old to function or they die. And they like things just the way it was for them ... so they raise the next generation to expect and work to preserve the same. So real societal change is slow, and sometimes disturbing or even violent.

So if some twenty-something points the finger at their parents and/or grandparents as the culprits for unpleasant current affairs, they may not be too far off from the mark.

It was what it was, it is what it is.

The LEFT does lots wrong...or does lots of things that I, personally, wish they would not. I am gratified that the people on the LEFT seem much more willing to acknowledge that...and do less assigning of blame than do the people on the RIGHT.

I was born in 1971. My kids were born in 1999 and 2004. Obviously, we didn't have identical childhoods or enter adulthood in the same year.

I was the latchkey generation. We were already seeing the transition from the old single-income household toward needing two incomes to maintain a middle-class lifestyle, but I can still see how much easier the basic transition into adulthood was for my generation than it is for theirs.

Housing was dramatically more attainable relative to income. College could be paid for without routinely taking on mortgage-sized debt. A young person could get established on an ordinary income without needing nearly as much capital up front. And the federal government hadn't yet accumulated anything resembling today's debt burden.

So yes, generations contain enormous individual variation. Nobody disputes that. But saying “people within a generation are different” doesn't somehow make broad economic trends disappear.

If anything, being born in 1971 gives me a pretty useful vantage point: I was close enough to the Boomer economy to benefit from much of it, and I have kids young enough to see how much harder the same milestones have become.

That's not “generalizing people.” It's comparing the economic conditions different generations were handed.

  • Redo pool and spa - $35,000
  • Repipe/reroute drain-sewer, $14,000
These are just the major expenses.

$148,000 - out of pocket.

I'm just breaking even.

I had a paper route.

But the illegals took that over, and now no one reads a daily anyway. We sometimes ignore the massive damage we've done to kids and teens by importing illegals.
